A proud, powerful name from the hobby’s distant past is about to make its presence felt in a whole new arena. Spoiler alert: The Select brand is crossing over to basketball — and it will do so with a huge assist from Panini America’s wildly popular Prizm printing technology.
2012-13 Select Basketball will arrive in late March packaged as two seven-pack inner boxes within each 14-pack box that will deliver four autographs, four new-design Prizms and six additional inserts. Select also continues Panini America’s massive and historic Double Rookie Class with a 100-card hard-signed RC subset featuring players from both the 2011 and 2012 draft classes.
But the real stunning development in Select is likely to be the application of the brilliant Prizm technology, most notably on inserts such as Panini Select Rookies, Select Stars and the sure-to-be-scorching Hot Stars.
The product highlights are plentiful and include . . .
- A 325-card base set including 75 rookies that featuring either an autograph, or an autograph and a swatch of memorabilia
- A Hot Stars lineup bolstered by White Hot and Prizm parallels for both
- Three distinct Prizm parallels (Prizms, Gold Prizms numbered to 25 and Black Prizms numbered to only 1)
- Each seven-pack mini-box will yield two autographs, two Prizms and three inserts
We’ll have much more on the debut of 2012-13 Select Basketball right here on The Knight’s Lance in the coming weeks. But for now, here’s your extended first look at the product:
All information is accurate at the time of posting. Content is subject to change. Card images are solely for the purpose of design display.
another up and coming excitement of product!
Thanks Tracy! Is there a price set for this lovely product?
$10 per pack.
Slick design. The prizms are going to be a sick pull. March is so far away…what a tease!!! Lol rsvp me on this one! Sounds great
You guys should be keeping all of this secret and not letting the other companies see success. Panini is doing exactly what collectors want… Bringing back the classics and improving them. Is Select going to be basketball only or will we see this in other sports as well?
Finally a Black Prizm that everyone have been asking for. Thanks Tracy for considering it! Or its already been planned all along.
Looks like alot of on card autos here.
Thanks again!
black prizm is key, should never be another prizm based product without that chase hit
I love the looks of the Bird. Would look better with an autograph and in my showcase haha.
Looks like another stellar release for hoops fans, thanks for the preview Tracy!
Black Prizm FTW!
Wow! Select looks Amazing!! Great job Panini!
Looks okay, would have liked to see some of those Prizms in Prizm
Like the fact that Panini is bringing back some of the Pinnacle Brands nameplates; but if you’re going to bring back Select, then you need to go all out and brought back Dufex.
Solid Product but where is the Dufex??
That was sooooo cool the first time you saw it!!
will there be any Michael Jordan cards in this product like a regular base?
No, sir.
I think the coolest looking card in the gallery is the Hall Selections. On my computer screen it almost looks 3D o.o!!!
That box brings back great memories of 1993 Score Select baseball!!!
Hey Tracy, is Panini going to release 12-13 Past & Present? If so can you all please try to get Laphonso Ellis and Shareef-Abdur-Rahim to autograph in the elusive ink set. Thanks for reading
Yes, sir. We are. I’ll pass along your wish list to the guys.
The autos or Irving and Knight cards look like the Preferred autos they released last year and another product with way to many rc autos and not enough star autos. How about releasing more autos of stars?
hey tracy nice cards, what u guys should do is make a product that has the best of panini basketball, where you guys include the best and nicest cards you guys have had through all the products 🙂 just a thought
