Panini Peek: 2012 Limited Football

While most folks around the country will be hitting malls and big-box retailers the day after Christmas this year, astute football collectors will be heading to their local hobby shops -- the only place to get 2012 Limited Football when it releases December 26.

While most folks around the country will be hitting malls and big-box retailers the day after Christmas this year, astute football collectors will be heading to their local hobby shops — the only place to get 2012 Limited Football when it releases December 26.

The higher-end collecting staple returns in force this winter with a few design twists for its trademark Material Phenoms on-card-autographed Rookie Cards, the introduction of several new inserts and sequential numbering to 399 or less on every card in the product.

2012 Limited Football will include 100 base cards, 50 Legends, 50 Phenoms and 35 Material Phenom RCs. Each seven-card box will deliver three autograph or memorabilia cards (with at least one autograph guaranteed), one Legend or Phenom and three additional inserts or parallels.

Headlining the insert lineup this year will . . .

  • Hog Heaven: A new addition to Limited, Hog Heaven features authentic football swatches that are
  • signed in brilliant silver.
  • Limited Cuts: History is honored in this classic insert featuring cut signatures from some of the game’s greatest legends.
  • Stadium Stars: Paying tribute to the most important part of a player’s equipment, Stadium Stars showcases actual pieces from game-used helmets.
  • Tag Team: Two of the league’s best players are joined together on this two-piece memorabilia insert that is paralleled by Laundry Tag or ID Tag versions.
  • Inked: This autograph-only insert features the league’s most impressive players from the past and present.
  • Game Day Materials: Game-worn, game-dated materials are featured in this prime-only insert.

We’ll have much more on 2012 Limited Football right here on The Knight’s Lance as the product developments. But for now, enjoy this extended first look at the venerable collector favorite.

    1. I hate to be negative here but I have to be honest..I think the Membership card is to gimmicky. It’s like something you would pull out of a crackerjack box or cereal box or something. Like put your name here type of thing. Just my opinion but I comment for what I feel is good and comment for what I don’t think is so good. Love the rest but who is certifying his membership to the Browns? It’s just corny or seems like something more for kids.

  1. Hey Tracy,

Any word if there will be an Initial Steps shoes insert this year? I can’t wait to see these bad boys in person; the inked set looks like it will be sick!

  2. Sounds really great!! I like the direction you are going in with the “Game Dated” insert, nice to know EXACTLY when a piece is from. Also BIG BIG BIG fan of bringing back the “HOG HEAVEN” Auto’d football swatches. I liked that set when it was released in the earlier 2000’s, and was lucky enough to pull an Aaron Rodgers “Pigskin PenPals” (I think) auto from that set. I still remember the “too bad it’s not Alex Smith, Rodgers will never get to play behind Favre” comments I took for that..

  3. Love Limited!! Also the RPS On-Card autos are sweet, I just hope it doesn’t mean more redemptions in the long run! Great stuff, Tracy!

  4. Those cards are awesome-I especially LOVE the RG3 on card auto!
Thanks Panini for having on card autos on superb cards. Really looking forward to Limited Football. Thanks again for the sneak peak.

  5. Stunning! Limited looks amazing. Thanks for the Gmen throw in on the gallery. hard to tell with the Giants which WR should be a Tag Team with Eli. Cruz is pretty impressive.

  6. Excellent new look to the blog, it looks exactly the same on mobile (Motorola Droid 2 Global on Verizon) except for the new banner just fyi. Great first look at one of the better sets of the year, glad to see it return with some of the old favorites back and some new designs as well. Thanks Tracy!

  7. The cards are stunning especially the on-card auto phenoms! I would happily take a redemption card if that means on-card auto for “Inked” and Jumbo fabric card inserts! The on-card autos might be enough to convince me to buy two boxes of this product instead of one Limited box and one Gridiron box.

  8. Tracy really like the Look of the new Phenom cards this year!! I was wondering if you guys planned on including Morris Caliborne in on the major patch/jersey cards this year. I know he wasnt at the rookie photo shoot, but wanted to ask if I should be watching out for some game used patches and jersey pieces on the upcoming cards?? Everything has looked great lately, you guys are doing great. Cant wait to get some Limited this Holiday season.

  9. K guys, I bought a case if the 2012 limited, and really good looking cards..
I just have a couple questions, about 2 redemption cards.. The main one, I have a material phenoms RC of Russell Wilson.. Is that autographed as well?
Also I received a Alfred Morris Monikers silver, which type of card is that?
    Thanks!!
This case was stacked with top rookie running backs, and receivers, and 3 top rookie QB’s!!
