After more than a year of slow, steady buildup that included special preview cards at last year’s NBA All-Star Game, Panini America is finally ready to unveil more details about the highly anticipated return of NBA Hoops to the trading card market.

The company’s 2011-12 NBA Hoops release, set to arrive March 14, is a true-to-theme throwback to the landmark 1989-90 release that will deliver two autographs per box and a massive 279-card base set that digs deep into each team roster, including a special Champions chase card that will round out the set.

2011-12 NBA Hoops boasts a classic, instantly recognizable design sure to be a thing of beauty to longtime basketball collectors and newcomers alike. Highlighting the release is a 179-card Hoops Autographs set featuring the likes of Kobe Bryant, Blake Griffin, Kevin Durant, Chris Paul and Dirk Nowitzki.

Also making NBA Hoops a slam dunk is the special “A Night to Remember” insert set that was selected completely by collectors through a unique vote right here on The Knight’s Lance.

The set’s great photography is bolstered by the inclusion of original 1989-90 Hoops BuyBacks featuring on-card autographs. We’ll have more details on this sparkling new addition to the Panini America NBA lineup soon enough. But for now, feast your eyes on these tantalizing preview images.

  1. cool stuff, glad to see an insert-specialized/specific product, which will make the autos only that much more special and valuable. Nice work panini!

  2. I really like this one, and with the right combination of relics/autographs this could be real impressive. I am hoping Tayshaun Prince starts signing some autographs for Panini. He has had some awesome relic cards. I hope to see him in NBA HOOPS!
    all the best,
    Johnny
PS. My Tayshaun Prince collection is super collector insane!

  3. I love that the base set is 279 cards, hope to see some new faces and/or new jerseys for players. Of course, if you want to make a Hoops set, you need to have all the coaches in there too. I love the Mavs card, a nice homage to the Pistons card from 1989-90.

  4. If Hoops has rookies or even just rookie redemption cards, this is a complete home run. I would easily wait another month or two for this product to give Panini time to include them if they are not already planned. If no rookies are included, this set will be forgotten quicker than you can say “Hoops”. Don’t blow this one Panini!

  5. hopefully the buyback autos will be decent. Are there going to be any hard to find inserts? That is what would make this a real hit for old school collectors. I hope they bring back the slams w/ slam bams parallels.
