In this special edition of Panini Unwrapped, Tracy Hackler and Panini America Assistant Brand Manager Clint Hall have their way with one box of the highly anticipated 2010-11 Zenith Hockey.

Watch as Hall teaches an impromptu lesson in how to properly access your Dear to Tear box-toppers (and please, don’t try this at home).

In an effort to give away all the hits from this box, we need participation from loyal readers of The Knight’s Lance. All you have to do to be eligible to win is two things:

  1. Post a picture in the comments section below of you holding the one Panini America hockey card in your collection that you’d never dare to tear.
  2. Give us your thoughts on the age-old debate: To tear or not to tear.

We’ll randomly select a handful of winners and award them some of these sweet cards. We’ll also post a gallery of all the submissions.

As always, thanks for watching — and thanks for participating.

  1. Is there a redemption in Zenith for the booster chair used by Clint in the filming of this video, or do we have to wait for Dominion?

  2. Isn’t it releasing today ( Thursday) or is Friday the release with the redemption in Zenith for the booster chair used by Clint in the filming of this video?

  3. Im a gambler and would absolutely tare. Ive never been a fan of jumbo cards, and the possibility of an auto from a non-released product would be too tempting. Another great idea by Panini! I have many cards I would not dare to tare.

For some reason I cannot copy and paste my picture? Any suggestions?

    How about a link: http://coltsd21.shutterfly.com/pictures/1170

  4. I don’t actually own any Hockey cards as of yet (not a big hockey town here in the southeast, though we do have the Admirals). I’m more of a fan of the Americana stuff. But I would tear them open in a heartbeat, there is way too much good stuff hiding in there to be left undiscovered.
Those are some very nice looking cards though.

  5. While I have been lacking in the “major hit” Panini pulls in the many boxes I have opened, I would still never Dare to Tear this card: http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g119/spoodini/Banners/zBlogStuff/1fe9c3c2.jpg (Crown Royale Taylor Hall RC Jersey on a horribly grainy cell phone picture, the iPhone4 front camera is horrible)

And first off, I need to say that I’ve been heavily in favor of box toppers on all products (tearable or not) as it is just another way for great value in the set whether it’s just jumbo, autographed, game used, a tear card, whatever. So kudos to that. And do I tear? I tear if it’s not a PC team/player. If I pulled a Staal or Ward jumbo, I wouldn’t know what to do. Anyone else? TEAR!

  6. i will have to go to the LCS friday to see if they got any, can’t wait to order a box lol

plus i love box toppers as a general rule, so they are a welcome addition, as to dare to tear or not to dare, in this case it will depend on the card, a pc player i will not dare, also if the card has a top player i will tend to leave it whole as well, it will get a better resale price that way me thinks

could not post a picture of a card for the contest, sorry, thanks anyway for the offer

  7. I was an original fan and I love that Zenith Dare To Tear is back! And better than ever from everything I see! I Dared To Tear back then and I will Dare To Tear again! Although I think I may get more quality out of the new set… That being said one of my PC favorite cards is in the photo below… Roberto Luongo Team Canada ’98 Zenith TRUE Rookie! I also included my newest PC 10/11 Panini Playoff Contenders Auto Rookie Nino Niederreiter! Which I definitely also wouldn’t tear! Can’t wait to Tear some more soon!

  8. Jumbo cards are pretty sweet, and if you can ever get them signed in person, that makes it all the better. I would go for the tear though, but not right away. I think I might hold on to one for a rainy day and then hope for the best.

As for a picture of a card I would not dare to tear, I don’t have a hockey card of such pull, but I do have one of Paul George of the Indiana Pacers. I met him once on the job, and I’ve been collecting him ever since.

  9. Very cool break guys. As I’m sitting here watching your break and you’re discussing “Crease is the Word,” in the background on the TV is the Family Guy episode where Peter is obsessed with the song “Surfin’ Bird.” Good timing. LOL
Very cool break – I like the Dare to Tear concept, but here’s one card that I would never, EVER tear: http://i244.photobucket.com/albums/gg16/RGM81/Preview%20Pics/Panini.jpg – that’s a Certified Shirt Off My Back Combos of Carey Price & Patrick Roy that I was able to get BOTH players to sign. Just a gem of a card!
As to the other question, you gotta tear, man!

  10. I really love the Dare to Tear idea. I love it so much that I went to my local card shop with my son today to buy a box or two. Unfortunately he was sold out of Zenith (don’t worry he ordered us some right on the spot). Rather than leaving empty handed, we decided to purchase a box of Panini Luxury Suite and inside we found a card we would never Dare to Tear. The day worked out pretty well if I may say so and we still have opening the Zenith boxes later this week to look forward to.

This card is especially sweet because we are huge Hurricanes fans. In fact prior to today’s pull we were going to submit a Jeff Skinner All-Star Redemption autographed patch card. Another card we would never Dare to Tear. (BTW, you guys were awesome at the NHL All-Star game!)

While we would never tear those cards, we are definitely in the tear camp. Just too much of a temptation not to tear!!!!
