Big Plans for the 2010 Toronto Fall Expo

Panini America will be doing its best Felix Potvin impersonation next month . . . by pulling out all the stops in Toronto.

Panini America will be doing its best Felix Potvin impersonation next month . . . by pulling out all the stops in Toronto.

Indeed, during the 2010 Toronto Sportcard and Memorabilia Expo (beginning Nov. 12 at the Toronto International Centre), the company aims to dazzle a decided hockey contingent with another of its trademark, show-stopping wrapper redemption programs.

But football and basketball collectors will most certainly find something irresistible in those two-card redemption packs as well.

Panini America officials have developed a show-exclusive six-card redemption set around the forthcoming 2010-11 Donruss Hockey (limited to 500 copies) that includes two Rated Rookies (limited to just 250 copies), two Ice Kings (limited to just 250 copies) and . . . drum roll, please . . . seven autographed Rookie Patch NHL Patch cards (limited to just 25 copies).

Randomly inserted into packs will be limited-edition autographed versions of the base set (Ryan Miller, Jonas Gustavsson), both Rated Rookies (Taylor Hall and Tyler Seguin) and Ice Kings (Ray Bourque).

The Donruss-inspired, Expo-exclusive hockey set will be augmented by an additional set limited to just five copies as well as randomly inserted cards of NFL stars Sam Bradford and Tim Tebow, and NBA stars John Wall and Evan Turner, also limited to just five copies.

Oh, and just to make things a little more exciting for show-goers, the company is spiking those packs with additional signatures of some guy named Kobe Bryant, Tebow, Bradford, Wall, Turner and NHL favorites Mario Lemieux, Patrick Roy, Steve Yzerman, Eric Staal, Joe Thornton and Steven Stamkos.

Collectors will receive a two-card Expo-exclusive pack for every five 2010-11 hobby packs from Panini America’s multisport roster of products – or a full box of 2010-11 Score Hockey – they open at the company’s booth.

Stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance next week to find out about the company’s plans for instant-win prizes and Box Wars contests at the Expo.

  1. Why can’t I live in Toronto instead of Vancouver??? Seriously though Toronto has the best show yet of course when I go in the Spring of this year Upper Deck is a no show and Panini isn’t making cards yet. This Fall Expo is going to be sick with Upper Deck, Panini, and ITG all pulling out everything they have to compete for the collectors spending money. My choice if I was in Toronto would be several boxes of Panini Certified! I’m actually going to the local card/comic store tomorrow to pick up a few boxes of Certified since I’m doing the set complete base, rookie, and insert set with mirror red base & insert set, & platinum red base set. Should be fun trying to complete.

  2. Awesome stuff Panini. The one thing this show really needs is a bigger corporate presence and some more corporate sponsored happenings. Especially ones that kids can participate in.
Wrapper redemptions that have a “buy in” price tag of over 75$ (looking in the general direction of Carlsbad,CA) alienate alot of kids.
I will definitely be stopping by the Panini booth this year.

Who will be there representing Panini?

    1. Appreciate the comments, man. Stay tuned next week for an announcement on something we’re doing for the kids. Both Scott Prusha and Al Muir will be in Toronto along with members of our sales team. Please go by and say “hello.”

  3. I’m excited to be going. I firmly believe we are the one manufacturer that makes the show experience fun and affordable for collectors. Nathan we will be making it out more so let you know if we make it to your neighborhood.

  4. My husband and I can’t make it out East to the EXPO so hopefully Panini can make it out West to the 2nd largest show in Canada – THE SUMMIT…. PRETTY PLEASE PANINI!! Fantastic job so far! Jim and I love what you’re doing.

  5. I just wanted to say “thank you” to all of you at Panini for making collecting fun again. I have been collecting for over 35 years now, and while I have probably spent enough to have purchased my house, I am not one of those case buyers…just the occasional couple of boxes here and there. When I found out you guys were the exclusive NBA company I was a little put off…as honestly I didn’t know much about you other than the stickers. Then the initial offering didn’t really knock my socks off…but since then…WOW. You guys are absolutely a class act from the distribution in boxes (I have received everything I was supposed to get from every box and usually a little extra, something I was NEVER able to say from that other California company) to the way my customer service questions have all been answered. Now that you have hockey, my world is complete. Thank you for doing something other companies don’t…putting the collector FIRST and producing quality product after quality product. Please do attend some West Coast shows as I would gladly make a trip to thank you in person! (Especially for the Brandon Jennings Prime I pulled from Certififed today! )
