Pieces de Resistance: Turning Kobe Bryant’s Game-Worn Jersey into Classic Collectibles

Earlier this week we detailed the West Coast road trip of Panini America's Brian Bayne as he attempted to secure on-card autographs from the likes of Blake Griffin and Eric Bledsoe for the upcoming 2011 Preferred Basketball release. As is his customer, Bayne went above and beyond the call of duty.

Earlier this week we detailed the West Coast road trip of Panini America’s Brian Bayne as he attempted to secure on-card autographs from the likes of Blake Griffin and Eric Bledsoe for the upcoming 2011 Preferred Basketball release. As is his custom, Bayne went above and beyond the call of duty.

In this case, that meant extending his stay by a few days so that he could spend some quality signing time with Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant. Kobe signed many devastatingly gorgeous cards during the visit, including his Silhouettes inserts that were, quite literally, hot off the presses.

In fact, the production work on Kobe’s Silhouettes cards was completed long after Bayne had left town. So those cards were rushed directly to Bayne at his hotel so he could have them in time for the signing.

In the gallery that follows, you’ll not only peek the beautiful finished product, you’ll also see the assortment of prime patches embedded into the cards. Enjoy. And stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional details on the blockbuster 2011 Preferred Basketball release.

  1. Wow. Thats so awesome. It can be sad to see a jersey like Kobes cut up…but when they come out looking that good on those cards. The sadness leaves.

  2. Hi Tracey, these cards definitely look very promising. But will you be able to spot-light other former players doing signing sessions outside of Kobe. Stars of yester-year such as Dennis Rodman, Toni Kukoc, Ron Harper and Scottie Pippen.

      1. Thanks Tracy, i really enjoyed reading yours articles in beckett back in the 90’s, so i really hope to see many more content from 90’s players especially from the 90’s Bulls. They were the gold standard in basketball and still is.

  3. Man those cards are NASTY!!!!! I cant wait to meet Kobe because i have so much to talk to him about. I cant wait to bust some Preffered and hopefully i can pull one of those cards! Great job Panini!!!!
