Collectors, the time has arrived. After almost two seasons away, National Treasures Basketball — one of the most storied super-premium products in hobby history — is making its celebrated return to the hardwood next Wednesday. And The Knight’s Lance is locked, loaded and ready to do its part to preview the juggernaut like only it can.

So beginning today, we’re going to launch an unflinching series of preview galleries, a full-court press featuring coast-to-coast displays of the single greatest cards produced for inclusion in 2012-13 National Treasures Basketball — beginning with this particular showcase of the set’s one-of-one Printing Plates and filthy-fabulous prime memorabilia cards.

By now, hardcore collectors have come to expect the most majestic memorabilia cards imaginable from National Treasures, and as you’ll see in a moment, this year’s edition comes through with flying (multi)colors. What might surprise you about 2012-13 National Treasures Basketball, however, is the addition of rare 1/1 Printing Plates that fall at least one per box (with most boxes delivering two).

Let’s pause for a few seconds to let that sink in . . .

Panini America officials have culled the printing plates used to create several 2012-13 releases (including National Treasures, Totally Certified, Preferred, Crusade, Gold Standard, Select and the Kobe Anthology set) to develop an impressive Printing Plate checklist. What’s more, the company also reached back into its archives to include plates from the landmark 2009-10 National Treasures Basketball release.

So under that backdrop, we now begin in earnest our no-holds-barred barrage of NT eye candy. Trust us, there are more galleries to come — and soon. So stay tuned.

  1. I like the plates from past years but so many Kobes in one release? I’d spread those out a bit but I guess that’s good if you are a Kobe buyer as the price may drop down. Some of those patches are really nice too.

    1. What would you rather have a 1/1 printing plate or an extra jersey card /399?
If you dont like it you can always sell it, especially the superstar plates should fetch a decent penny!

    2. They said on the latest Unwrapped video that you’ll get one plate per box, so it’s not really replacing anything else – just a guaranteed hit.

  2. Love the pink griffin! ? Mojos to u guys! Mojos to everyone in panini. Stoked fpr the release!

  3. Man that’s eye candy. Thanks for it!
Tracy I was curious, are there different printing plates for lets say a gold select card /10 versus base? And if there is, is there a way to tell if the printing plate is one used in a gold variation? Or do they both use the same plate?

I wish Prizm plates were in this, I’m sure they would be really sought after!

  4. I really like the tendency toward larger swatches of jersey. I do take issue with the amount of die-cutting that is superimposed over patches though. It’s much more difficult to see and enjoy a nice patch when you have to look through a bunch of small cut-out “windows” (examples are any of the cards with the team name die-cut or a player’s number).

  5. Many colors of the rainbow!
    Very visually stimulating!
More Mojos to be had and cherished!
    Real NBA Patches!
    Thanks Tracy!

  6. Woahh woahh woahh. Wait im inlove!!! <3

Well i can say that those are pretty set!

Will you release only patches this year? No autos?

  7. VERY cool product! Wish it was closer to $400 on the secondary market as opposed to $650+ Always a great break, just a weeee bit above what most of us can afford!

  8. Tracy those patches are off the chain!!! I think we need to see more previews of the really Sp Lillards!!!

  9. I have 8 cases pre-paid pre order!!! I can’t wait for this to drop!
LOOKS FANTASTIC even if I hate printing plates!

  10. Wow!
    It did sink In!
    PRINTING Plates!
    KOBE anthology! Wow!
    Your right Tracy!
    Its an eye candy!
    Patches are superb!
National Treasure will surely deliver big bucks especially on the secondary market!
    Enjoy and always have fun!
Love reading all the Comments and its funny that someone tried to copy!
    Very entertaining indeed.
    Goodluck again!
    Salute!

  11. Tracy, do the printing plates count towards the 10 cards per box or are they bonus hits with each box still containing 10 “National Treasures” cards?

  12. Those colossal cards look way better than those from previous years. Small details like the curved corners on the patch window just gives it that extra touch.
Also like the addition of the Material Treasures, those Lillard patches are pretty awesome!

I do agree with Jim that the covered up patches on the Timeline cards are also not my favorite, especially when you compare them to great patches on Material Treasures.

I do feel the design departement should be carefull with creating too many sets with white backgrounds and cutout player photos on top.
From the looks of all the previews so far every card in NT will have a white background.
Perhaps you guys could incorporate some subtle touches of the team colors into the backgrounds on next years NT.

Anyway im getting more excited for next wednesday and cant wait to get my hands on some of these new National Treasures cards!

  13. I don’t know what to say, i am speechless, but i guess it is alright, the cards speak for themselves.

  14. Great preview here, I like the idea of getting the plates out into collector’s hands. My favorite patch is the John Wall but a close second goes to Coach Kidd in a Knicks uni. Thanks as always Tracy!

  15. wowzers! Totally disgusting patches! Those are some of the filthiest patches I’ve seen! Nice addition with the plates! Can’t wait to see some of these in person next week hopefully woooo! See you soon Tracy!

  16. Would like to see a gallery on the rookies patch autographs. Are they numbered like previous years? Would like to see the logoman cards as well. Hope to buy a case next Wednesday and another at the national. See you there Tracy .

  17. Panini Number 1 AGAIN!!

The baseball National Treasures was a HIT

Now the Basketball National Treasure will also be a HIT

I’m Danny Bacteria and I will always buy Panini card

  18. National Treasures is probably the best product ever made for basketball 12/13 in my opinion! It’s hard to say that when you have Gold Standard. Can’t wait until the Unwrapped episode come out! Speaking of it when is the Unwrapped gonna be?

  19. Wow insane!!! Any chance 1/1 printing plates can be in future football releases? I almost want to buy this now and I don’t buy basketball 🙂
