Quality Controlling . . . 2010-11 Playoff Contenders Patches Basketball (video)
The Panini America basketball team — Mike Payne, David Porter and Aik Tongtharadol — spent most of Monday morning taking the good, hard, first looks at 2010-11 Playoff Contenders Patches Basketball, a re-imagined take on a company classic that adds a contemporary twist to the brand’s trademark Rookie Ticket autographs.
That thread-bearing twist comes in the form of striking manufactured team logo and alternate logo patches that provide each Rookie Card with a radically new feel. Clearly, these are not your father’s Rookie Tickets.
Monday’s preliminary quality-control check — conducted on location at the printing facility — yielded a refreshing and varied array of compelling designs, interesting die-cuts, tons of autographs and the award-worthy presence of wickedly-hip, rarely-if-ever-seen-on-trading-cards secondary NBA team logos.
The following gallery should sufficiently whet your appetite until the product arrives in hobby shops next week. After you’ve taken in all the eye candy, be sure to watch the short video of our hoops heroes busting a few QC boxes straight from the production line.
