Quality Controlling 2010 Certified Football (Must-See Gallery and Video)

I don't care what anybody says, Panini America Football Brand Manager Carlos Torrez is a good dude, and here's how I know: He tipped me off just before lunch that he and Product Development Director Ben Ecklar were in the process of quality controlling 2010 Certified Football (tough job, huh?).

I don’t care what anybody says, Panini America Football Brand Manager Carlos Torrez is a good dude, and here’s how I know: He tipped me off just before lunch that he and Product Development Director Ben Ecklar were in the process of quality controlling 2010 Certified Football (tough job, huh?).

So I grabbed my trusty Flip Video camera and iPhone and set off to the PDT conference room to document the process. And here’s what I thought about what I saw: “Wow!”

To those folks who are less than thrilled by the slight delay in ship date, I completely understand. But after seeing the results of these early QC cases, I think you’ll agree that the product will absolutely be worth the wait when it arrives on November 17.

Here, take a look for yourself. Oh and stay tuned for the video at the end of the post . . .

  1. Great Video. Certified looks solid. So I know you guys are doing your jobs and all, but do you get as excited when opening product as us collectors do, or does every card basically look the same after awhile? Keep up the good work on letting us inside Panini!!!

  2. Thanks. That video was very informative. I was one of the people very disappointed in the release date pushes. I think one of the best part of that was explaining exactly who you were waiting on. Obviously, having Bradford’s auto live in the product is a big plus. Just a suggestion, when a release date is pushed, this is the kind of information that would make the wait a little more tolerable. Thanks!

  3. This video was great. There was a ton of information! I’ve been looking for a product to really dig into, and this is it. All the cards look great, and that Brandon Lafell Jumbo was outrageous! I’m glad to see the process of QC in action and it makes me, as a customer, feel better knowing that they’re doing the thing that we all do: busting packs.

Ps. Where do I apply for a job for QC? I would love to wake up in the morning knowing I was going to open cases of hobby boxes for my job.

    1. Thanks for the kind words, Simeon. I’m glad you enjoyed the video and that you’re looking forward to Certified. You’re right on with that LaFell jumbo. It’s one of the sweetest memorabilia cards I’ve ever seen. By the way, stay tuned to the blog. There might just be a contest soon enough where we award someone the chance to QC with us.

      1. I am probably the biggest Lafell collector out there right now with a nearing 200+ Lafell cards including 3 superfractor autos and 5 other 1/1’s also including the NFL shield auto from Absolute (redemption but still mine) the question I have is will that Lafell go back into production? If not where does it go because I would love to have it with my HUGE collection. Please email me with details if you have time. And a Huge thanks from an US Army Soldier who is a collector…Alex aka armyatc22 on youtube and some forums

        1. First of all, Alex, thanks so much for your service to our country. You are appreciated. As for the QC cards, typically they’re hand delivered back to the printer and reintroduced to the packout process. When you get a chance, can you email me some images of your LaFell collection? I’d love to see it. Thanks again for all that you do.

  4. Amazing video! Thanks for showing us behind the scenes for such an awesome product. I know I’ll be relegated to buying from my hobby shop, but a guy can still dream about opening a product before anyone else gets to see it, right? Keep those videos and informative questions coming Tracy!

  5. Do you guys have any females working for you? If so, what do THEY do at Panini? I’d love to work in the industry.
