Richard Sherman’s Dirty Laundry Arrives at Panini America Headquarters (Gallery)

The last time ebullient Seattle Seahawks defender Richard Sherman faced a quarterback named "Manning" in MetLife Stadium, the self-appointed "best corner in the game!" certainly played the part, picking off Eli twice in a 23-0 Seattle shutout of the New York Giants just 10 days before Christmas. This Sunday, Sherman and the Seahawks return to MetLife no doubt looking for a similar performance against Eli's older brother in Super Bowl XLVIII.

The last time ebullient Seattle Seahawks defender Richard Sherman faced a quarterback named “Manning” in MetLife Stadium, the self-appointed “best corner in the game!” certainly played the part, picking off Eli twice in a 23-0 Seattle shutout of the New York Giants just 10 days before Christmas. This Sunday, Sherman and the Seahawks return to MetLife no doubt looking for a similar performance against Eli’s older brother in Super Bowl XLVIII.

The jersey that Sherman wore in that Week 15 performance against the Giants, however, will not be making the trip — and Panini America’s 2013 National Treasures Football will be a whole lot cooler as a result. Last week, that very jersey that Sherman wore while recording his fifth and sixth interceptions of the 2013 season arrived at Panini America HQ, a truly special delivery that received instant rock-star status.

In fact, based on the reaction the jersey received internally, you would’ve thought Sherman himself had entered the building. Short of that, though, this battle-nicked white road top sure seemed like the next best thing. This particular jersey will be used in 2013 National Treasures Football to create Sherman’s first game-worn memorabilia cards. Earlier this season, Panini America became the first and only trading card manufacturer to sign Sherman to an autograph agreement.

Panini America securing this jersey is more than just a cool development for everyone here; it’s also a huge coup for Seattle’s rabid 12th Man faithful across the country. 2013 National Treasures Football will feature a 12th Man memorabilia insert that includes the No. 12 patches stitched into the inside back collars of all Seahawks jerseys. Sherman’s jersey arrival also helps complete the Team Quads insert featuring game-worn memorabilia from Legion of Boom members Sherman, Brandon Browner, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor.

We’ve previewed those gems near the end of the gallery below. But first, enjoy an intimate exploration of Sherman’s spectacular game-worn jersey.

  1. Hi Tracy great stuff. I know it is 4 months till 2014 football comes out. When do you think we will see 2014 score football?

  2. Hi Tracy, have always been curious – does Panini wash jerseys before putting them in memorabilia cards? It is just that I have never seen an actual “dirty” (i.e. grass stains, mud, etc.) on swatches, and on this specific jersey I do see some wear like that. Thanks!

  3. Tracy. Realy fast question from Instagram. Will panini have a booth in Vancouver Heritage Classics? And who will be there? Thank you and keep up the great work. Greatings to Jason for doing a great job with the #PaniniSuperBowlKidReporter

  4. Browner?…. didn’t he just get suspended from the NFL indefinitely for failing a drug test?
    oh yes he did….

On December 18, 2013, the NFL erroneously reported Browner was facing another suspension for again violating the NFL’s performance enhancing drug rules. The suspension was later changed to reflect a substance abuse issue related to missing drug tests during the time Browner was undrafted by an NFL team, while playing football in the CFL, and prior to the Seahawks contract. Currently, Browner and his agent are appealing the suspension.
