Shoe-In for Set of the Year: A Master Gallery of Immaculate Basketball’s Sneak Peek

The revolutionary Sneak Peek insert randomly inserted into Panini America's 2013-14 Immaculate Basketball has been one of the most talked-about insert sets in recent trading card history -- and for good reason. The idea of deconstructing some of the most spectacular game-worn sneakers in NBA history and incorporating them into trading cards is a shoo-in (no, make that "shoe-in") for innovation of the year.

  1. Wow… Those are some of the nicest cards I have ever seen. Kudos to you Panini. Football cleats next??? I don’t think any shoe can top the “pump” but always a joy to have and to hold 🙂

  2. There’s cards totally need to be quarantined, but technically since the card design is exactly the same for several cards with the lone exception being the shoe piece, they aren’t really 1 of 1s are they?

  3. This makes me wonder “what IF” you could have made this into National Treasures hockey. or something. Just show how good you are and you might do hockey sooner or later.

  4. I’m always a huge Panini fan, and I love these cards more than anyone can imagine – but with that being said, I’m completely irked as a collector about these cards being labeled 1/1 when there are multiple of each from each player within the same insert set. They are fake 1/1s and I probably would be embarrassed to show the cards to my friends if it’s being advertised as a 1 of 1 because my friends are smart enough to find the exact same cards online etc and then ridicule it. I’d much rather it be honest and just say 1/5 or 1/50 than say 1/1 and find out that there’s multiple other variations of the same thing out there. In this case, the card saying 1 of 1 devalues it and does the opposite of the intentions.

    1. Appreciate the feedback, Drew. Will get with our product team for feedback. I can say that these Sneak Peek cards are quite unique and more than just a different color or standard parallel. Each of these shoe pieces is a one-of-a-kind item and I’m quite certain that’s why the decision was made to number them as such. By no means was it done as a way to deceive or mislead collectors.

      1. I really appreciate you taking the time to review my feedback. It means a lot!

Here is a reference example based only on the 5 Shaquille O’Neal 1/1s:
1 (The not really justifiable case): The Shaq Reebok logos are nearly identical. Hard to justify the 1/1.
2 (The potentially justifiable case): The two Shaq logos with the only difference being the color of it.
3: (The justifiable case): The Shaq pump card. I could call this a 1/1 and be fine with it at the end of the day. There is nothing similar enough to it for me to argue.

This case is a very unique one as I’m sure you can tell. Defining what is truly one-of-a-kind is a hard task sometimes as it can be ambiguous and be in the eyes of the beholder – especially in this set! Normally I am totally okay with how the cards are produced and labelled and had never found myself being naturally misled by card numberings in the past. But once again thank you for taking the feedback and continuing to release absolutely ridiculous and innovative cards!

    1. Let me explain my comment lol …there isn’t enough words in the dictionary to fully describe the total uniqueness and awesomeness of this total set! Hence it is……OFF THE CHAIN!! 🙂 “PANINI PACKS THE PUNCH!”©®
