In a few short hours, hobby shops across North America will open their doors for business — and one of the first products their customers will be asking for on this new-release Wednesday is 2012 Elite Extra Edition Baseball. Annually one of prospecting’s most anticipated products, Elite Extra Edition has been upgraded for 2012 with at least six autographs per box, the addition of Team USA autograph and autograph memorabilia cards and a colorful, collectible array of Aspirations and Status die-cut parallels.

Earlier this morning, we opened one randomly selected box of 2012 Elite Extra Edition Baseball for the express purpose of giving collectors an early idea of what to expect this year. The following gallery provides a pack-by-pack breakdown of every card we pulled in that box.

Stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional coverage of 2012 Elite Extra Edition Baseball, including a must-see edition of Panini Unwrapped. For now, though, enjoy the impressive results of our first box.

  1. Very nice. Can’t wait to pick some of this up. Not a big fan of the way the die cuts are this year but the card design looks great. The Team USA auto’s are a nice touch as well. Overall, looks like a very solid product.

  2. Always one of my favorite products to bust. Especially digging the diecuts this year. Can’t wait to bust open my box this weekend!

  3. While I couldn’t pick any of these kids out of a lineup, I can certainly appreciate the quality design and frequency of autos in this year’s edition. Prospectors should rejoice over these. Thanks for the preview Tracy!

  4. Very nice looking relese! I Love the Team USA cards. I am moe familar with Elite football so one question. Does Elite Baseball also have passing the tourch case hits? Thanks for the preview 🙂

  5. I love it! Looks like Panini over-delivered on this product. 7-8 autos/box seems to be pretty common/12 autos in hot boxes. That Zunino (Mariners!) was a nice pull and I love the plate-shaped die-cuts. I think word of mouth will spread quickly for those prospectors looking for real value out of their breaks. Keep up the unannounced surprises. You will please a lot of people if the breaks exceed expectations.

  6. Like the die-cuts, BIG fan of the inclusion of auto mem’, BIGGER fan of the prospect of hot-boxes with 10 sigs’. That said, a minimum of 6 autos per box is eye-popping.

  7. Every single card, from the base ones to the inserts, looks very nice. I’m excited to see that the majority of the just-drafted Florida Gators are in this set, and even more excited to see that just this single box had Tucker, Zunino, & Fontana in it.

  8. i like the look i think the die cuts will grade very hard, i do like the usa stuff. but would rather see prospects auto relic in this set than the usa ones, those can go into the usa boxes.other than that ill be breaking a few boxes anyway ;]

  9. Great looking stuff, cant wait to get my cards from my breaks today!! i had a few nice hits, nothing like the zunino in the gallery tho! would love to have gotten one of those babies!! he and hultzen are PC guys of mine so that card makes me wanna go buy some!! love the amount of hits we were getting per box in the breaks, seemed to be more than advertised which is fantastic!! as always keep rockin the great products out fellas!

  10. What happened to doing the “must-see” unwrapped video? I was really looking forward to it since I would like to hear more about this years product. From the case breaks I’ve seen/been in it seems like this year product is a much more limited release. Also I would like to know why the inclusion of the USA auto’s this year? What were the issues Panini faced getting so many players to sign on card? What players where you not about to get to sign on card that you guys wish you were able to? Why did you guys make the decision not to include rookies and a few vets in the checklist compared to 2011 EEE? Has the thought of bringing back the hugely popular Passing The Torch single and dual autographs come across the product developers minds now the your have MLBPA license agreement? Was feedback about the poor grading condition of the back of 2011 EEE cards considered when designing this years product?(It seems so far the card backs are a lot better this year.) Why did you guys decide to create SP variation versions of some of the base cards and how limited are they? These are just a few of the questions I was hoping would be answered by your unwrapped video but it never came. Are there any plans to make one? I know its a few weeks after release but for such a popular product it would be a shame to let time pass with no more promotion of the product. Thank you for your time!
