  1. The product is, of course, magnificent. However, I do believe that more than most, this product will appeal to a very specific collectorship. The gold discs, the logos and emblems, they have no connection to any game-used item. The autos are very nice, but I feel that single color swatches…in a product of this price point, is disappointing.

  2. If you’re into Terrance West jersey cards and trash inserts with pieces of gold plastic, this is the product for you!

  3. Looks terrible. Gimmicky plastic gold pieces in the card is a real turn off for people paying close to $1500 per case. Real gold pieces need autographs to have any real value. Overall bad concept bad price point and even worse return on investment. Thanks Tracy!

    1. Obviously isn’t a product that suits your taste, and we can appreciate that. But those aren’t plastic logos; they’re metal. And the product is doing extremely well in its first few days on the market. We do appreciate your feedback, though.

  4. Customers called or came in throughout the day, looking for 2014 Panini Black Gold Football. Seems like UPS is always late when a hot new product is due in. Customers left the store “Black Gold-less” and disappointed but said they would be back. UPS finally arrived at 2:30 on Friday and a slow day turned into a hectic customer-filled exciting afternoon.

Everyone, from hobby-newbees to veteran box breakers gathered around the box break table to see some of the most beautiful sports cards ever produced. Even those who didn’t break a box of Black Gold got in on the box break action. My stock of Prestige, Prizm, Hot Rookies, Crown Royale, and Rookies & Stars all found their way to our box break table to join in on the fun. By the end of the day, I saw nothing but smiles as customers said, “I’ll be back.”

2014 Black Gold Football is a HUGE Winner!

    1. Charlie, where is your shop, bro? If you’re within 200 mi. of me, I’d be willing to make a trip and participate in a box break event such as you described.

The product, I do believe, is not for everyone, but its indisputably beautiful. And, anyone who pulls a “plastic” disc or logo? I’ll be happy to take it off your hands.
Beautiful product that may not be for everyone, but it certainly pushes the boundaries of the hobby.

      1. Pushes the boundaries of the hobby, really? I guess I would agree with you in the sense of pulling $500 from a $1500 product is pushing the boundaries of the hobby, but not in a good way. Please lmk if you are being serious about “taking the gold disc logos off my hands”. A few friends and I would be ecstatic about unloading these!

  5. Rarely have I read comments about a new product that contain such animosity!
Here’s the beauty of our wonderful hobby and the extensive network of collectors that this Blog brings together; buy and collect that which you like, leave the products that do not appeal to you for another collector. Period. No one is holding a gun to anyone’s head, demanding that one drop $400 on a 1/pack box. That decision is up to each of us to make. This blog encourages a lively, vibrant exchange of information. If you have nothing nice to say about a product Tracy, Scott or another Panini staffer took the time to post… say nothing. One can critique products and make negative observations without sounding like a 12 year-old hater.

  6. Hi Jameyman,
Everyone who opened 2014 Black Gold Football in my store loved it. I heard nothing but “Ooooh, Aaaah, and Wow!” from my customers.

We are located in San Antonio, Texas. If you hit on “Charlie DiPietro” in green on my post it will take you to our website/blog for more information about us.

  7. I’ve seen the product opened live a few times, cases at a time. The look of the product is very nice and looks of a higher end product for the industry, but most of that seems to be smoke and mirrors. Sticker autos, metal pieces worth less than fake gold clad, and gold pieces left over from past Gold Standard products makes the price highly questionable for an avid collector like me. 2014 Panini Black Metal Football is just too much for what it is.

    1. I am not taking issue with the Sticker autos, nor am I defending the gold discs if they are NOT gold. I was under the assumption that they were, indeed, gold.
      That said, I ventured the opinion that this is a niche product. The design will resonate with some while striking a sour chord with other collectors. My most significant point was that;
      1. Beauty and desirablity is in the eye of the beholder. To some, sticker autos are hideous and deface the cards theyre upon. Others recognize that stickers are an unavoidable consequence of the wild-fire spread of auto/Mem’ cards and the refusal by the collecting public to accept a product bearing sticker autos. Look, want Emmitt Smith of Brett Favre? Peyton or Rice? How about the graphs’ of the most current Rooks’? Those dudes are swamped, so Panini AND other companies have the young athletes sign a year or 3 of autos. While not as desirable and beautiful as on-card, the autos and mem’ still set the cards apart…

Again, this is a fantastic forum for useful, produtive commentary, observations and suggestions from from the collecting collective. And therein lies the beauty of this Blog; early pics of products still under development and thoughts from fellow collectors.
I am NOT the Panini police. However, we’re a small, tight-knit group, my daughter and other children read the Blog, I’m sure, & when the comments go from constructive to demeaning and downright mean and insulting? We must police ourselves.
TKL is a killer public outlet, the first of its kind to my knowledge, and it and those who both maintain the Blog and comment upon it, deserve respect.

      ****Bad Beat.
