Teaser Gallery: Panini America Cracks Open One Early Box of 2013 Prestige Football

Score Football may have gotten the nod this year in kicking off Panini America’s loaded 2013 NFL collecting season, taking that prestigious perch away from, well, Prestige, for the first time in more than a decade. The good news for collectors, however, is that 2013 Prestige Football remains a leader in every other way that matters.

Equipped more than ever to be a preseason juggernaut, this year’s Prestige brand — out everywhere tomorrow — delivers four autograph or memorabilia cards per box, great photography, Rookie Cards featuring players in their NFL uniforms, a fresh infusion of alluring acetate, zero redemptions and a box-busting allotment of calling-card inserts that have come to define one of football’s most venerable and revered brands.

That’s not just lip service. And to prove it to you, we busted one 24-pack hobby box this morning. The pack-by-pack results of this particular box can be seen in the gallery that follows. We’ll have much more coverage of 2013 Prestige Football right here on The Knight’s Lance in the coming days. But for now (in the name of appetite-whetting and due diligence), take a peek at the yield from one randomly selected box — and enjoy it.

  1. Wow, looks like this product over-delivered as with all Panini products! I also like that there is a Rookie card in every pack! The inserts and relic cards are great too!

  2. Looks like a Panini-heavy purchasing weekend coming up at the local card show with Golden Age and Prestige coming out!!

I like the colorful muted backgrounds on the rookie cards. Beats those empty bleacher backgrounds any day,

Wish some of the rookie insert cards had their numbers rather than 00, but I’d rather see their numbers on their rookie cards and auto than on the inserts, if I had to choose.

  3. Looks awesome!! Question…are there different parallel levels for the micro-etched draft picks and prestigious picks set? Thanks

  4. Also I appreciate how the box is designed. I know not many people care about the box design so much, but it is nice to see some innovative and creative designs that way.

      1. I’ve also noticed an overall reduction in the size of the retail boxes. Used to be a number of packs and a rather large chunk of styrofoam in each box. Packaging is much smaller now-more environmentally friendly.

  5. Just wow… I love the Extra points, the Prestigious Picks, the NFL Draft Picks, the Season tickets, the Draft City Destinations… Well almost every single set, and that’s very unique! Even the packs look very classy and great! Any chance of winning any of those hits? Would love a contest for those!

  6. Really impressed with Prestige this year. You are going to make others have to step up their game this year.

  7. Very great looking… may just go ahead and open a box or two. 🙂 Still wondering why Geno Smith as the cover of the box though? Why not E.J. Manuel, wasn’t he a higher drafted QB? Whatever. As always, this kicks off my 2013 collecting season… love me some Prestige! Isn’t box design the same from 2010 Prestige? At least it looks pretty darn similar.

  8. Is there a checklist for this yet? or can you tell me if Bilal Powell and Jeremy Kerley have auto’s in Prestige?

  9. Pros Cons
Good design The big “ROOKIE” symbol
Good inserts Cut out zoomed in action shots (preseason shots)
No redemptions Still counting memorabilia cards as hits
24 Packs per box No guarantee of four auto hits
Acetate cards Many high numbered parallels
Balanced break Hit or miss draft class

Most of the cons are not Panini’s fault. Can’t have a good action shot if these guys haven’t played yet, so left with photos taken during Rookie Symposium. Big problem is the no guarantee of four autos. Industry still pushing memorabilia as hits. Customers are not happy when we get a Dustin Keller unnumbered small patch as a hit out of our expensive hobby box. Don’t become the company known for filling their products with these hit fillers.

However overall a good looking product. Still don’t like the big “ROOKIE” on the front. Will always like the classic RC small symbol on a corner. Afraid of how many parallels this product might have. Seems the industry is pushing so many parallels that they become meaningless. No need for eight different hobby parallels and then another four retail and then another two promo parallels. S

So far this has the best insert of the year, really liking the “NFL Draft Picks” insert, should have numbered the whole set. Something about gold the just stands out as special and then add the fact that they are low number rare would have made them stand out even more. Afraid Panini is using the rainbow reflector too much. Feel like the products are becoming too similar.

  10. Looks great. if the low end products (prestige/score) look this good, the rest of the year is going to be amazing. More proof that Panini needs to just stick with what they have licenses for.

  11. Another awesome design. Keep up the awesome work guys! Three points:
    1. Please feature DJ Hayden in a few releases!!
    2. Please no more Richard Seymour for the Raiders! He has not been part of the team since well before Flynn was traded for yet he still features in the sets (when another deserving Raider could!)
    3. Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for featuring Marcel Reece. Good to see someone else rather than the standard players.

PS. A Jared Veldheer card would be awesome… hint hint 🙂

  12. I would love that box! Not because of the reasons that most would tho. It was LOADED with Bengals! ME LIKEY!

  13. Solid looking box, I really like the design of the Gronk acetate and look forward to chasing down all the Colts from that set. Are there any parallels of that subset, numbered or otherwise? Thanks Tracy!

  14. Do my eyes deceive me, or are we finally back to colored foil on the Xtra Points parallels? That’s been one of my gripes for the past few years, and I’d be THRILLED to see the foil parallels back.

  15. i cant believe u guys have a Alec Ogletree card! i hope yall are comin out with Jarvis Jones rookie cards this year. Does a manti te’o invisible girlfriend card come with the manti te’o card?
