The Drool Gallery: 2010 Panini Plates & Patches Football (Part 1 of 2)

Judging by the buzz reverberating about the collecting community these days, I'm not the only one harboring high hopes for 2010 Panini Plates & Patches Football, the brand new high-end hit parade due out everywhere next week. To be sure, there are reasons aplenty to believe this product will be a monster.

Judging by the buzz reverberating about the collecting community these days, I’m not the only one harboring high hopes for 2010 Panini Plates & Patches Football, the brand new high-end hit parade due out everywhere next week. To be sure, there are reasons aplenty to believe this product will be a monster.

The poignant, head-turning new product will strive to deliver significant value in every $150 pack by including one prime-piece memorabilia autographed Rookie Card, two additional autographs and a fourth hit (either a fourth autograph or a memorabilia card) in addition to a pair of base cards, one parallel and one insert card.

Prior to today, everything I’d seen of Plates & Patches so far had exceeded lofty expectations. When I finally got real cards in my hand this afternoon (compliments of Stephanie Carlson, Panini America‘s VP of Production who was fresh from a quality-control check), I spent a good chunk of the next hour just soaking it all in.

Here’s betting you’ll do the same starting . . . now:

Be sure to come back tomorow for the can’t-miss conclusion of this gallery, including a look at the product’s stunning use of printing plates.

  1. I know $150 is a lot of money, but I agree with you referring to Plates and Patches as providing “value” to the collector. Sure, I’m biased because the featured card is of C.J. Spiller, a box with four hits and 2 base cards sounds pretty good. Better yet, Plates and Patches LOOKS good. Lovin’ the foiling and detail around the patches. Not all that excited about the sticker auto’s, but this looks like a very solid winner.

  2. Love the look of these cards! Especially the Johnny U. cut auto. Very good price as well seeing that you get just as many hits as you do other products, just less base and inserts.

  3. Absolutely fantastic!!! I was just thinking about these too, and with them coming soon, I am even more excited, which means… my head has exploded. Yes, exploded. These are BEAUTIFUL and for $150 with 4 hits (one being a prime rookie auto?!?!?!) you can’t beat the value! The foil is not over done and it accents nicely, some of the cards have a “dark” look to them (kinda like Crown Royale, but beautifully simple), and the “plain” auto’s… they are SWEET! I am SOOO looking forward to P-N-P, right after I figure out what to do with my exploded head 🙂
