The Hits: 2010-11 Donruss Basketball

I'll be the first to admit that we've gone above and beyond in attempting to whet the collective collecting appetite for 2010-11 Donruss Basketball. Why? Simply, I think it's one of the most alluring products of the recent basketball past and I figure that many old-school collectors will find it to be as captivating as I do.

I’ll be the first to admit that we’ve gone above and beyond in attempting to whet the collective collecting appetite for 2010-11 Donruss Basketball. Why? Simply, I think it’s one of the most alluring products of the recent basketball past and  I figure that many old-school collectors will find it to be as captivating as I do.

In recent days we’ve posted a 2010-11 Donruss Basketball Drool Gallery and an episode of Panini Unwrapped starring the product. And now, comes this gallery showcasing many of the product’s scarcer autograph, memorabilia and insert hits and a few of the top Rookie Cards.

Like so many errant passes from Scott Prusha on the Panini pick-up court, I intercepted this batch of beauties from Stephanie CarlsonPanini America‘s VP of Production, as she was escorting them back to customer service. I pleaded with her to give me five minutes to scan them.

She obliged. The following eye candy is the result.

  1. Some great looking hits, thanks for tracking them down to give us this preview. I need that Birdman ‘Production Line Prime’ in my life… hopefully there’s an auto’d version of it, too.

  2. The “retail giant that tends to have retail packs” hasn’t carried this yet so I went to the “retail giant that tends to have hobby packs”. Got a value pack. The team checklists are ok, otherwise not too bad. 1 die-cut emerald, 4 Production Lines, 4 Rated Rookies (including a JOHN WALL!).
Oh yeah, and a Jersey Kings of Kevin Love . . .
    . . . the last one made!

  3. The 10-card packs came in. My first pack had a #ed Rondo “Magicians” card AND a Tim Duncan Production Line jersey swatch. But I hadn’t pulled anything quite like in my second pack. A Production Line, Danilo Gallinari, numbered two out of TEN!!!!!!!!

  4. Picked up some more packs tonight. Base cards included Nowitzki emerald die-cut and LeBron! Rated Rookies included Derrick Favors AND John Wall! Inserts were Chris Paul #ed Magician, TWO Dwight Howard #ed Magicians, and jersey cards of Gilbert Arenas, Deron Williams, Pau Gasol, Kevin Love, Jason Kidd!!!

  5. Four more packs, pulls included Joe Johnson emerald diecut, Pierce, Shaq & Durant base, Rated Rookie Demarcus Cousins, Kukoc Jersey Kings (no jersey but #ed), Durant Craftsmem #ed, and Production Line swatches of Kenyon Martin & Kevni Love. (also got a Rookies & Stars pack, which had Amare, Dirk & Carmelo base, and a Freshman Orientation Evan Turner double swatch! 🙂

  6. Two more packs last night. The first one was fine, with a Steve Nash jersey card, but I couldn’t believe it when the 2nd one had a Larry Bird jersey card! 🙂
