From the day Panini America’s 2011-12 Prime Hockey was announced more than 17 months ago, collectors of other sports have been clamoring for a similar product to call their own. The voices only grew louder when that inaugural edition of Prime released last August. And now that 2012-13 Prime Hockey is on the verge of release, the demand is deafening.

It’s obvious by now: Baseball, basketball and football hobbyists crave a Prime-like product that places a premium on some of the biggest, nastiest, game-worn memorabilia cards of all time. In late October, another sport’s collectors will get their wish — and it will be . . . immaculate.

2012-13 Immaculate Collection Basketball is slated to arrive October 16 and will deliver — quite frankly — some of the most unique NBA memorabilia cards ever created by incorporating the same hand-cut craftsmanship and attention to patch detail that hockey collectors have come to love about Prime. (In the special preview gallery below, we show you just some of game-worn greatness that awaits.)

And while Immaculate’s massively proportioned memorabilia cards will demand most of this product’s headlines, there’s much more to like. Every six-card box of 2012-13 Immaculate Collection Basketball will deliver one base card numbered to 99, one Autograph Patch Rookie Card numbered to 99 or less, one autograph or autograph patch card, one memorabilia card and one additional autograph or memorabilia card.

Among the product’s many highlights:

  • Six Star Logos, the industry’s first six NBA Logoman Booklet 1/1s.
  • Immaculate Caps memorabilia card featuring pieces of player-worn hats.
  • Immaculate Numbers acetate variations sequentially numbered to the featured player’s jersey number.
  • Immaculate Insignias memorabilia cards featuring team-specific found on the back and chest areas of game-worn jerseys.
  • Immaculate Logos memorabilia cards featuring oversized pieces of Logos, Numbers and Commemorative Patches.
  • Immaculate Standard cards featuring oversized memorabilia swatches of the top NBA superstars on the pristine Immaculate acetate substrate.
  • All-Star Lineage and Title Winners Autographs: Autograph cards featuring players who have won an NBA Championship or appeared in an All-Star Game. All of these will be numbered to the number of a times the featured player has won a title or appeared in an All-Star Game.

We’ll have much more on 2012-13 Immaculate Collection Basketball here on The Knight’s Lance in the coming weeks. But for now, we’re done talking. We’ll let the following preview images speak for themselves.

Enjoy.

  1. These are my favorite blog posts. I remember the ones from Prime Hockey last season showing all of the jerseys cut up for the patches. Always good to see where the patches are coming from

  2. I agree that it should be Prime Basketball as the Prime name would be consistent. Also, why are there three logomen of the same player on the same card (assuming that card is a live one)?

      1. I understand that part of it, just wondering the thoughts behind putting three logomen of same player on the same card, seems to be overkill.

    1. Kemba Walker and Andre Drummond were both 9th picks, i think its a card. However just make it a dual logo instead triple for both

  3. How much is it for a box of this? If the price is right, I might try my luck on this.
    Haven’t busted boxes for almost 10 years…

  4. Wow, this was quite the surprise. Those jumbo patches look amazing. But myself and a handful of other collectors are wondering, why 3 logomen for one player? Its an amazing and ridiculous card (in a good way), but why not 6 different players for each logomen.

  5. Oh wow, those Raptors pieces just got my adrenaline flowing like crazy!
Those Original old-school Raptors jersey’s are so sweet!!

That Raptors jersey has to be handsdown the best suited jersey for patch cards in NBA history!

Think about it when you pull that Vince Carter patch and the Raptor head is staring you right in the face! Priceless!!

Gotta get my hands on one of those!

    1. The majority of the Six Star Logos cards feature six players. We decided to feature a few of them with two players with three Logoman logos.

  6. tracy is this for real 3 logoman of the same player ? would be good if its 6 of different person… its just weird 🙁

  7. Some nice patches are coming…some… but (sorry for my honesty) some of them are just almost like a simple jersey with that really small piece of patch on the bottom or top or the corner of the material. I think you wanted to make too many patch card from a limited material and the result of that you will have some card hat will hardly look like a patch card, but no doubt there will be some awesome looking patch too.
Don’t get me wrong, i love what you are doing, but just simply when i see a patch(prime) card i want to see at least 20% of the visible jersey material to be covered by the patch.

(Another thing, now that you put many Printing plates to the NT boxes, can we see sometime in the future a video about how exactly these plates are used in the process of making cards?)

    1. Appreciate the feedback. Our Product Development folks are constantly reading collector feedback on our own blog as well as on other industry platforms.

As for your suggestion on printing plates, that’s a great idea. I’ll try to get that video in the works at some point.

  8. No way! This collection is going to be sick! This has to be one of the most popular sets to collect once it comes out! I hope it can be affordable to small time collectors like myself.
Panini never stops to amaze me! Good job Tracy and Panini!

  9. Looks great! Big fan of the retro Raptors jersey and the nice looking Nuggets “mountains” patches!

  10. hey tracy/marketing team,
i was thinking if you can create an insert/parallel that would be based on the jersey number of a player… e.g. say kobe bryant 1 to 24 would be parallel a (prizm effect etc) then 25 to 99 would be another parallel then kevin durant would be 1 to 35 (same type of parallel like kobe) then 36 to 99 would be another parallel?

  11. Very cool, taking the awesomeness that you have been doing in hockey and adding it to basketball. Keep up the great work.

  12. I don’t collect basketball; but after seeing these beautiful cards… It really makes me want to start collecting them. Wow. I mean Wow!

  13. Love the Ray pieces although A nice game worn Jersey died to make that! This release looks very awesome. I toyed with picking up some of the NHL product last year as the patches in that were insane. Good to see the idea carried over!

  14. bunch of rumors running around..after this one there is still a high end product coming out.. did you guys jut got Lebron to sign for you? 😀

  15. This just might be the NBA Rookie Product Of The Year! Amazing gallery and amazing cards! I just hope I’m lucky enough to pull a Kyrie! You guys know I. Will try my hardest by busting a LOT of boxes when it comes out! Keep up the great work guys. Panini’s the BEST in the buisness!

  16. Since we only previewed the one card with Kemba Walker/ Drummond, We thought we share with you some of the other cards on the checklist:

    James/Wade/Bosh/Durant/Westbrook/Ibaka
    Carmelo/Kidd/Amare/felton/Martin/J.R. Smith
    Nowitzki/Carter/Marion/Mayo/Cunningham/Crowder
    Pierce/Garnett/Rondo/Terry/Sullinger/Green
    Duncan/Parker/Leonard/Ginobili/Splitter/Green
    Davis/Kidd-Gilchrist/Teague/Lamb/Miller/Jones
    Kyrie/Williams/Kanter/Davis/Kidd-Gilchrist/Beal
    Ewing/Malone/Parish/Olajuwon/Robinson/O’Neal
    Beal/Parsons
    Davis/Kidd-Gilchrist
    Irving/Rivers

Thats not all of the cards but a fairly good sampling

    1. the first time i hope that Rasheed Wallace is not in any of the 6 Logoman Cards!
is he in any of the other Cards? Would love to know that so i better start saving money, lol.

  17. Will Tobias Harris have Magic Uni patches in this or will his RPAS and patch cards still be in Bucks uniform?
I like the fact each pack has a breakdown.. No cases with 0 rpas 🙂

  18. Ok tracy, probably best product of the year…at least second to NT
Now, i was wondering how panini was planning to package this.
It seems like a premium product, almost as premium as NT. I think it deserves special treatment too. say anything better than just a foil wrap. Just my opinion. I just don’t want these beautiful cards t get damaged in the packaging process.

  19. Those Vince Carters Raptors gives me chills with his Half Man Half Amazing
    Highlights Dunks!
Thats is how I want to remember him on his peak
He is really the Main Man. Just like Grant Hill on Pistons Uni
And Penny Hardaway On Magic Uni!
    Thanks for the previews!
Going out 12-13 season With a Bang!
    I like it!

  20. Wow GUYS!! in my 4th live case break since coming out, today Monday 11-18-13
Hit after hit, just when I thought it couldn’t get any better!!!
BOOM!!! I hit the mother load!!
LOGO MAN PATCH AUTO RC 1/1
    DAMIAN LILLARD!!!!
In the same case was a Kyrie Irving 4/14 hat tag
2/7 Carmelo Anthony name lago N!!
    This stuff is so sick!!
Plus all the Kyrie RPA redemptions I’ve pulled!! Just simply the sickest card set I’ve had broke on the internet!!
It was on blowout cards live, if you want to see the card!!!
    WOW!!!
    2 thumbs up Panini!!!
