A few weeks back, our friends from the NHL Network visited Panini America HQ, camera in tow and curious to find out exactly how we go about making some of the industry’s best hockey cards, including one particular Nail Yakupov Rookie Card from the new 2013-14 Select Hockey.
To that end, the NHL Network crew spent most of the day here in the office soaking it all in — the photo selection, color correction, memorabilia cutting and more — and capturing as much footage (and as many interviews) as possible. When they were finished here, the NHL Network crew members darted across town to the magical land of the Panini America production facility to capture the rest of the action.
Yesterday, the captivating finished piece — which actually began back at the NHLPA Rookie Showcase in August — began airing on the NHL Network and on NHL.com. If you’ve ever wanted to see the fascinating process of how a hockey card is made, well, here you go . . .
Awesome video. I love watching how things are made. I was wondering though. Where do you guys get the images used on the cards? I can’t imagine you guys go through a database like Getty Images. Do you get them from freelancers? This is more in particular to the action shots. Thanks!
We do have photographers that shoot for us and we also have relationships with some of the larger photo houses.
