Now that October has officially tipped off, it’s time to start thinking about the big basketball month ahead for Panini America. For starters, there’s the highly anticipated release of 2012-13 Threads Basketball in a few weeks. Then, at the end of the month, Panini America officials will conduct the live draft to determine the 2011  checklist for last season’s Double Rookie Redemption programs.

But for the purposes of this particular post, we’re going to concentrate on the former by showcasing the High Flyers insert coming to 2012-13 Threads Basketball. The 30-card checklist is full of the air-minded acrobats you’d expect from such a theme; but it also has a few inclusions that might surprise you.

Take a look at the insert for yourself in the preview gallery that follows. And stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance this week for additional sneak peeks as we get close to the October 24 release date.

  1. your inserts look like regular base cards, why dont you guys throw some pezazz into them and spark up more interest them like they did in the 90’s… we know you have the technology to do it, so why arent you guys?

    1. totally agree, everything from the design to the numbering. novice collectors could easily mistaking them for base cards. but being the only brand with the license to produce NBA cards, they have no competition as far as NBA card products are concerned, so they can do what they want.

      1. Appreciate the feedback as always. Please keep in mind that the High Flyers insert is but one aspect of a pretty comprehensive set; we’ll show lots more in the coming days. What doesn’t always show up on the flat color mock-ups are the foil treatments and gloss of the cards.

Also, I think the “no competition so they can do what they want” criticism doesn’t apply. Our basketball team continues pushing the envelope in terms of product content, design, value and collector-friendly products. That will continue in an exciting season that includes a dual rookie class, the ongoing Kobe Anthology collection and so many other exciting developments.

        Please keep the feedback coming.

  2. Just looking at these cards is making me get all hyped about this coming up season! These cards deff put u in the game and in your face!!! Nice job guys on this one!!

  3. Confused about the actual release date on this….

Was supposed to be Wednesdat, October 3rd, then got moved to Wednesday, October 24th. Now you guys say it is on Monday, October 15th. Is this the final guaranteed release date??

  4. To bad this insert set didn’t come out last year. Disappointed to have never seen a card of Christian Eyenga dunking over Pau Gasol. What are the chances of ever seeing a Christian Eyenga card? Are you guys bring back Adrenalyn this year or is that set officially dead?

  5. i think ihave to agree with the first guys. the cards in the 90’s looked sooo much cooler than todays. the old flight club cards, metal universe, living legends, i miss those sooooo much. I also agree that with panini having exclusive right to nba cards, it is reallly hurting the product(although the college and legend sets produced by the others are sooo much worse). the football and baseball cards i see on here, even the americana cards, they are really great. Wheres the prime sigs for nba?? take A good look at dominion hockey, and tell me u dont want a wade or lebron auto that looks like that, holding a trophy and looking like a seriously awesome card does. high flyers does look like a base card, though inside presence looks cool. Until Manute Bol becomes the #1 wanted card on the list, make mine Panini!!:):):):):)
