The Panini America Interview: ‘Bears’ Actor Gary Lee Cavagnaro Talks Cards, Co-Stars
Panini America will make hobby and Hollywood history tomorrow with the release of 2013 Golden Age Baseball, an eclectic collection of American icons that includes the first trading cards ever made honoring “The Bad News Bears.” Almost 40 years after the release of one of the most beloved sports movies of all time, six stars from the seminal film — Tatum O’Neal, Jackie Earle Haley, Gary Lee Cavagnaro, Erin Blunt, David Pollock and David Stambaugh — finally receive a proper trading-card tribute in 2013 Golden Age Baseball.
In addition to appearing on regular cards in the Golden Age base set, each of the beloved actors also signed autographed cards for the product, which promise to be in high demand when the product arrives in hobby shops across the country tomorrow. Cavagnaro, who played the role of Mike Engelberg, lives in Dallas and dropped by Panini America HQ last month to sign his cards. When he did, Panini America took advantage of the golden opportunity.
In this exclusive interview with Panini America Baseball Acquisitions Manager Tone Stakes, Cavagnaro discusses his fond memories from making the 1976 film, his co-stars and the greatness of the late Walter Matthau.
