The Panini America Quality Control Gallery: 2011-12 Gold Standard Basketball (80 Pics)

Gilded. Gifted. Lustrous. Splendid. Resplendent. Aurulent. Dazzling. Sparkling. Stunning. Go ahead, pick any superlative you can think of to describe the precious-metal mojo that is Panini America's 2011-12 Gold Standard Basketball. They all fit.

Gilded. Gifted. Lustrous. Splendid. Resplendent. Aurulent. Dazzling. Sparkling. Stunning. Go ahead, pick any superlative you can think of to describe the precious-metal mojo that is Panini America’s 2011-12 Gold Standard Basketball. They all fit.

The fact of the matter, though, is that fancy words alone really can’t do justice to the dense, decadent, high-gloss finish at work on most of Gold Standard’s shining examples. Throw in autographs, game-worn memorabilia and actual pieces of 14kt gold and you start to understand why anticipation for Panini America’s final product of the 2011-12 NBA collecting season is so high.

2011-12 Gold Standard Basketball is the fabulously flaxen follow-up to one of last season’s most successful new products — and spending time with it on the production line late last week provided many, um, golden moments. Many of those moments are detailed below in a brilliant 80-image gallery documenting last week’s packout.

Enjoy this extensive first look at the product and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance in the coming days for the world-premiere episode of Panini Unwrapped.

  1. They look beautiful!!!!!!!!! Wish there were some more pics of Pistons players, especially Joe D, 🙂

  2. Thanks Trace now ive got gold fever, Lol!!! They are in every way some of the best cards ever to be produced! Those Black Gold Prime Jerseys is incredible!!! All I gotta say is UD,PP,L@T aint got nothin on u guys, Hows it feel to be King!!!

  3. I would love to get a Muggsy Bogues auto… I remember doing a report on him in elementary school when we had to chose a hero that had overcome the odds, in his case, not exactly the ideal height to make it to the NBA.

I also love Tom Chambers, being that I grew up and remain a Suns fan. I think he is one of the underrated players in history, especially when you consider his offensive game.

    Thanks for the preview Tracy!

  4. Beautiful Cards…I love the private signnings set. Has to be one of the best autograph set Panini has released.
Quick questions: The 2012-13 Draft class rookie cards, are they numbered? or just standard base cards?

  5. WOW!!! AMAZING!!!!!! Phenomanal!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! MIND BLOWING!!!!!!!! That about describes how i feel about GOLD Standard. Great job Panini for making an already amazing product even better!!! Keep up the great work and Tracy my daughter Kaylee broke her ankle in 4 places while sliding to homeplate in softball game the other night so we might not be able to go to the National this year. 🙁 We are pretty bummed out about it, but at least she’s ok. Lets hope she makes a speedy recovery so we can go to Baltimore next month!

  6. These are looking great. The patch in that Carmelo Anthony makes that card look like a pumping disco and I know they were released in earlier products but the Grant Hill & D.Rose private signings, awesome.

I wasn’t a fan of Gold Standard from a distance until I got one of last years cards in my hands and now I can’t wait to see people busting this.

  7. Its like a party for my eyes but EVERYONE is invited , these really are the pinnacle release of the NBA lineup. The design team continues to improve and refresh products and blow us collectors away!

  8. They are better than last year by far. great job on the last product of the year. Got my case and hope to hit a few big cards. Hope the National goes well for you and Scott. Hope to see you guys in Chicago next year. Enjoy

  9. Nice stuff! Smart to also include some more of the on-card Private Signings, and this time with some big name (Rose, Wall, D-Rob, Grant Hill).
Are those Bullion Brand cards still gonna be in this? Would have loved to seen a sneek peek of one of those.

Hahaha finally oshmeehan has his Ilyasova auto in a product, i guess he’s gonna be all over this one!
