The Panini America Quality Control Gallery: 2012-13 Absolute Basketball (85 Sweet Pics)

Now along comes Absolute -- after a year away -- to add yet another unique twist to one of the most collectible NBA seasons in recent memory. The Absolute recipe is well-known, and includes a generations-spanning checklist, a must-see ensemble of memorabilia cards and autographs from rookies, current stars and the game's greatest legends.

Panini America 2012-13 Absolute Basketball QC (86)
The hobby hits keep coming on the Panini America basketball court. Indeed, when 2012-13 Absolute Basketball releases tomorrow, it will mark the continuation of one of most most torrid scoring streaks in hoops hobby history, a month-long span that has seen the launch of 2012-13 Totally Certified, 2012-13 Prizm and 2012-13 Limited.
Now along comes Absolute — after a year away — to add yet another unique twist to one of the most collectible NBA seasons in recent memory. The Absolute recipe is well-known, and includes a generations-spanning checklist, a must-see ensemble of memorabilia cards and autographs from rookies, current stars and the game’s greatest legends.

In addition to a stunning new batch of designs (check out the Legends subset and Heroes autographs for just two examples), Panini America officials have tweaked things a bit for 2012-13 by delivering three autographs and one memorabilia card in every four-pack box.
Last week, in between getting 2012-13 Limited Basketball to market and readying both Absolute and the upcoming 2012-13 Timeless Treasures Basketball, two key pieces of Panini America’s NBA brain trust — Keith Hower and Wes Elliott — performed the QC check for the new-look Absolute.
What follows are just some of the sweet results from that process.
Enjoy, and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for more information on tomorrow’s release of 2012-13 Absolute Basketball.

  1. Looks great- Absolute Memorabilia Basetball has been a shadow of Prizm and Limited but not any longer. Tracy do you know if Absolute Baasketball is hitting retail?

  2. Thanks Tracy! We will surely enjoy these absolutely beautiful cards!
Well done Keith and Wes the genius of basketball.
    🙂

  3. Looks absolutely sick, its nice to have things back to normal! I love the way it looks this year also having the Heroesinsert set adds a nice touch to it! I also like the way the Star Gazing cards look this year cant wait to get my hands on some for x-mas!!!!

  4. I must say I do miss not being about to get Wade and LeBron autos, but Panini does an excellent job of bringing autos and memorabilia of players to collector’s that the previous regime neglected. I will enjoy busting a few cases of this stuff when it drops. Good Job, Panini, and keep up the good work!

  5. Will Pargo ever be featured in a Cavaliers jersey? It’s been the same picture in everyone of his cards for a team he isn’t even on. Any chance Donald Sloan has an autograph in this set?

  6. ●●●●●●● OMG! Yet another product with those “Private Signings” beauties! I love these cards! ●●●●●●●

  7. Finally a great subset dedicated to some of the best Legends of the Game, looks absolutely stunning!
Must say though that i do feel the rookies are a step back, the RPM’s was what set Absolute apart from other sets, it was the only product featuring GU/Ball/Auto on one card. Now the rookies autos are just the same as prestige and hoops with only a different design.
Looks like Shumpert, Derrick Williams and Sullinger are on-card and the rest of the rookies sticker auto, kind of messy to do half-half.
Red and Blue ink sp’s on the Heroes is a nice twist, and the Stargazing jumbo patches are also a plus.
And i guess we have the introduction of Jumbo Sticker Autos, havent decided for myself if thats a good or bad revolution.
Really interested in seeing whos on the checklist for legends and current stars. Would love to see Panini bring in some Hoops Giants that would add huge premium value to the products like Dwight, Garnett, Ewing, Duncan, Reggie, Barkley, K. Malone, Kemp, Wade but also would love to see some panini signees sign more often (Pippen, Shaq, J.West, Carmelo, Oscar Robertson, E.Baylor, D-Rose)

  8. I really like the Iconic card look! But my favorite things out of this product I think are, the jumbo numbered jersey cards (the patches look so sick!), the triple player jersey cards (It’s always cool to have more than one jersey of a player on the same card lol), and the on card autos of some of the greats and others! I don’t know but an on card auto always stops me in my tracks whenever i’m breaking packs open. It is just so slick looking and makes the card look 100 times more smoother with more flow. I like this product, it’s different! I will most likely buy a box or two but i’m still on my Prizm mission 😛

  9. The base and retired look nice. The heroes autos look incredible (maybe my favorite panini design so far). As for the amount of stickers and busy patch cards I will pass if I am paying 160 dollars. The absolute patches (the jumbo ones from 10/11) were incredible looking with the mix of shiny foil and a nice thick patch with not a busy design. The cutout patch take away from the card as a whole and I honestly do not understand the giant stickers. Also why are there no RPM cards this year?
good effort but with what is presented 2nd round draft picks should not be in this product

  10. Got to the end of the Gallery and was disappointed it was over way too soon! Still many many mixed feelings on Ray in Red but a collector has to collect what a collector collects. All the autos in this preview look terrific. A very nice addition to past Absolute releases.

  11. Come on guys, There’s 12 months in the year! Nice looking set, but I’ve already forgotten about Certified because of Prizm and Limited. Spread ’em out a little, my wallet only goes so far, especially during this time of year…

  12. Finally, stickers big enough to hold a players entire autograph. Well played sir. I was wondering when this would be done.

  13. We Absolutely needed one of these to top off
Joshua’s Christmas wish a Panini List!
    Thanks!
Merry Christmas and extend my holiday greetings
To all the great people of Panini!
    Salute!
    Peace!

  14. I didn’t catch this before… This is Absolute, not Absolute Memorabilia… Talk about missing something very obvious. The cards look great, the patches look awesome, but I like the Heroes are the highlight for me. I love the black and white photos. I love black and white photography… There is some capture of character in the photography. Great job!

  15. Hi Tracy…any new products that are coming out include 1ST. Place New York Knicks rookies of Chris Copeland and Pablo Prigioni ? Thanks and i’ll await a reply .

  16. sick hereos autos and nasty patches, kinda wondering why no jsy/ball/jsy this year? but great set this year nontheless…thanks guys
