If you caught our post yesterday detailing the Innovative Ink and Stained Glass inserts coming in Panini America’s 2012-13 Innovation Basketball, then you only saw a small glimpse of the coolness to come. In the comprehensive Quality Control Gallery that follows, you’ll get up close and personal with everything else that makes Innovation so . . . well . . . innovative.

After the jump, you’ll see additional advancements in acetate (the sweet View and Rookie View cards), the arrival of the season’s first event-used basketball cards, some cool interior die-cuts and some new twists on the always-mesmerizing micro-etching. And despite all of that, the one thing that might be the most innovative of all in the release has to be with game-worn jersey cards.

The refreshing Stat Line Jerseys game-worn insert proudly includes on both the front and back of the card exactly which game the featured piece of jersey was worn, along with the featured player’s stat line from that particular game. It’s a welcome development in the game-worn genre that promises to be well received by collectors.

It’s another in a long line of Innovation’s innovations, most of which are detailed in the images that follow. 2012-13 Innovation Basketball arrives in hobby shops everywhere one week from today and will deliver two autographs, one memorabilia card and one View or Rookie View card in every eight-card box.

Stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional coverage of the product in the coming days. But until then, feast your eyes on these beauties . . .

  1. ummmm the swat team looks pretty much pretty much the same as the 04-05 UD flight team and for that i love you!!! that set was insane and now im going to chase this set!

ps pippen base looks good…just stop paralleling them on me…give me a rest!

  2. The stat line idea sounds like a great one! If you made cards of the same player from multiple games, it would be interesting to see what the market would judge them as being worth. Meaning would a card featuring a piece of a jersey from a game where Kyrie played great be worth more than one from a game where he played just okay?

Another great idea was placing the acetate cards on top of each other in the 2 images where that was done so you could actually see the see-through effect. Those 2 should be the go-to images for anyone who asks “What does acetate mean?”, because the images of just one acetate card by itself don’t really show that.

    1. Agree about Stat Line – can make an otherwise nondescript piece of memorabilia unique! Please try this for hockey 🙂

  3. This is a VERY nice-looking product here. This single release honestly looks like it could have been broken down into 3, maybe 4 separate products. The use of etched foil and acetate combined with metallic marker auto’s and b-ball material cards make this an amazing release. I can definitely see the Prime “Stat Line” cards selling for big money on the secondary market.

  4. There is something really cool about the glass stained cards. I wonder how it would look with different designs, but for now I like the ones we’re offered.

  5. The Swat Team cards look nice and make good use of classic photos together with the modern card technology and design. But the base cards…wow…as dull as could be. The “View” cards as well. No stats or even any verbage on the back. It’s like you’re giving your writing team the summer off. What’s so impressive about clear plastic?

  6. Very sharp and a product that has a lot of different things to offer. The stained glass cards look cool and I bet even better in person.
