For those passionate NBA collectors who’ve spent the last few weeks totally chasing Totally Certified or being completely preoccupied with Prizm, know this: 2012-13 Limited Basketball goes live this week offering an altogether different — yet every bit as exciting — experience. Boasting some of the most uniquely shaped autographed Rookie Cards the hoops hobby has ever seen and a completely new twist on the game-worn memorabilia genre, the new-look Limited looks to be unlike any that have come before.
Those aforementioned Rookie Cards — printed on hugely popular acetate stock, signed on-card and die cut to resemble the Eddie Gottlieb Trophy annually awarded to the league’s top rookie — are sure to be conversation starters, as are the revolutionary Home & Away Memorabilia cards with a spinning square built into the card that twists to reveal a piece of game-worn home jersey on one side and a piece of game-worn away jersey on the other.

While those two innovations are likely to steal most of the Limited headlines, the product is brimming with other bells and whistles, including the return of the popular Glass Cleaners insert and the captivating Lights Out, Curtain Call and Center Stage game-worn memorabilia inserts.
There’s also a comprehensive checklist honoring the game’s greatest rookies, current star and retired legends that should appeal equally to collectors of all eras.
Below is a massive gallery detailing some of the most intriguing finds from the recently completed Quality Control process for 2012-13 Limited Basketball. The product goes live on Wednesday, so stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional coverage throughout the week. For now, though, get your week off on the right foot with the following gallery.

  1. Eddie Gottlieb Trophy, that’s a new to me.a basketball fan of history of the game.
Thanks Tracy I learned something important today.
I love that insert! It looks really nice clean 3d looking die cut. Great idea on that.
The home and away the Jersey that Rotates love it!
    Its My son’s Birthday today.
His smile is so priceless to see when he opened his gift of Prizm. Thanks Panini
For the moments worthy of remembering!

  2. Outstanding cardsmanship! (If that is a word:) The home & away jerseys are a must have- That is so cool! Collectors can actually flip the jerseys which ever way they want! Super excited for Limited to come out, but even more pumped up for Absolute’s release:) Great work as always Panini!

  3. I would give this product a solid “A”. But that “A” is to put in the word Memor_bilia. 🙂 Nice looking cards though!!

  4. I have a question I was hoping you could help with, I bought alot of 11-12 Limited and have redemptions for XRC’s from last years draft class. One that I pulled was Kenneth Faried and Kyrie Irving. I see a Faried RC Auto in the gallery, so he will have 2 limited rookies? but the redemption ones would be his true rookies? Any help and/or info on this would be great, thanks!

  5. Love the home and away jersey cards! Great idea! You could even extend that concept further with jersey swatches from different teams a player had played on (like Shaq Magic and Lakers swtaches), etc……

  6. And the award for best returning series goes to LIMITED
love it mate this is the best over all improvement to any series I’ve seen from panini
Can’t wait to see what Ibaka has in this set

  7. I’m super excited about limited being back this week! Those designs on the home & away & the rookie autos are mind-boggling! Hope Rudy Gay has some stuff here to chase after! Thanks for the gallery Tracy!

  8. Interesting and progressive design changes to the product, the spinning jersey is a neat addition. Can we assume some of these revisions will also surface in the football version of the product in some fashon? Thanks Tracy!
Also, on a technical note, the black and semi-translucent version of the photo gallery will not display for me on mobile (Motorola Droid 2 Global on Verizon). It looks like it starts to load then only gives a corner or nothing at all. I have to repeatedly click on a photo then back out until I get the traditional version of the gallery, where each photo is on it’s own page instead of the gallery being on top of the post page. Just something to bring to your attention and maybe try to address with the wordpress folks. Thanks!

    1. I hope we see that innovation in other sports, Tom. That would be awesome. As for your viewing issues, thanks for the letting me know. I’ll absolutely follow up with the WordPress folks. They are great to work with. I’ll let you know what I hear.
      Thanks again,
      Tracy

  9. Panini you know how much I love yall and that you are the only company I buy from. But, I have a few things I need to bring up. You guys made collecting fun for me when I got back into the hobby. I didn’t have a clue what I was doing and yall were always there to point me in the right direction. The economy is rough right now and it is making it harder and harder for a lot of people I know to drop $1000’s on a hobby. Below is something I feel like I need to get off of my chest. Not saying yall will listen to my input but I just wanted to throw it out there anyway.
    1. Having new releases is a wonderful thing! A lot of people may disagree with what im going to say and that’s fine. I feel like this year is CRAZY. I understand the double rookie class situation but, I feel like we are getting a new product every 2-3 weeks. Sure this is a wonderful thing but it has a lot of flaws for the collector. It’s nice to have a variety to pick from but it also is nearly impossible to enjoy the hard work yall put into each and every product. I have found myself no longer sitting and admiring the beautiful card work but to simply rip open and move onto the next. It’s really hard to fork out all this money knowing that the product your opening will somewhat be a thing of the past in just a few short weeks. I wish yall would slow it down a bit and let the collectors have time to get those hits from a box or finish a set before the next biggest and greatest box is out. I have found that it’s also hurting the cards value. Having 22 Kyrie Irvings for one year makes it a chase yeah but it also gives me a major headache haha (I know 22 is not the correct number).
    2. I think if your going to have such a short number of cards in a box and sell it for 100+ that you should be getting your money’s worth. For example: The Limited patches… Maybe try and make it to where you get rid of the scrub players and make every card a patch or make the jersey slots much larger like on some of your NFL products or like yall did Gold Standard’s Black Gold I believe it was. I noticed the Jermey Lamb autos and he is playing for the 66ers now and hasn’t even played a game with the Thunder that I can remember…
Like I said I love yall, and I just wanted to throw those two things out there not to be a jerk but to maybe help improve some of us collectors situations and make us feel like were getting that bang for our buck! Thanks again for everything yall do and I look forward to buying some boxes this week of Limited! It looks great! Keep up the awesome work Panini!
