The Panini America Quality Control Gallery: 2012-13 Past & Present Basketball (75 Pics)

From the soles of their sneakers to the sweatbands atop their heads, the NBA's greatest superstars from yesterday, today and tomorrow have a unique place in Panini America's upcoming 2012-13 Past & Present Basketball. It's a tactile presence complete with trading card creations that are different to the touch and by design. It's a presence with hard-to-find autographs and a cool factor fueled as much by print technology as the product's unique blending of throwback nuances and a wholesome dose of newness.

The Past & Present brand proved to be quite an engaging experience for collectors during its debut run last season.  But the 2012-13 sequel looks to be even more impressive. From flockingTreads and Elusive Ink to rare base-set SPs, legendary Hall of Famers and the Cracked Ice splendor or Shattered, there’s a little bit of something for everyone in 2012-13 Past & Present Basketball.

The product releases this Wednesday, but the Panini America basketball brass conducted the Quality Control process for it late last week, while many of us were in New York City for the 2013 NFL Draft. In fact, providing the following gallery was one of the primary reasons I couldn’t wait to get back.

So, without further ado, we present the must-see QC gallery for 2012-13 Past & Present Basketball. Enjoy this extended first look at this diverse and entertaining release. Oh, and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance tomorrow for a special look at one of the most unique inclusions in the set’s Elusive Ink insert.

  1. I cannot believe you all got Isaiah Rider and Dana Barros to sign, that is awesome! I hope you all got Laphonso Ellis and Shareef Abdur Rahim to sign for the elusive ink set. I love the beautiful on-card auto of B.J.! Great stuff, I hope there are more on-card autos to the elusive ink set. I am really looking forward to this product. Please upload the checklist ASAP 🙂

  2. I really like the die cuts this year! Really looking forward to the double rookie class for this product! Can’t wait to get my hands on some of this. Modern Marks is in my future 😛

  3. our Favorite product of Last year! Hopefully we get a box for free youtube group break…
Anyway, Love the Innovation and Those headbands looks awesome, with some real touch…
The Elusive ink… Very cool to have and some of them are actually ON Card, Kudos to those players.
This will be a cool box for everyone!
Thanks again for the great Photos and teasing Preview Sir Tracy!
Is there a checklist somewhere I might be missing out?
    Thanks and God Bless!!!

  4. wait, 24 packs? 10 cards each? all the promo before was 20 packs 5-6 cards each? what’s the reality?

  5. Jim Jackson’s auto is deff. Nice you can tell he has put time into it to creat a nice piece of artfulness. Not just two letters signed as fast as possible. Mad respect for that and you can READ-IT!!
    Nice gallery

  6. All the young players especially the rookies and sophs gotta learn from the retired players and sign better autographs. Some of the rookie autos are pretty hopeless.

  7. this is one of those products where you have to see it to appreciate it, the technology doesn’t appear in the pics as well as it does in person. IF this is priced as a low end product it will be a hit.

  8. Wow…LOVE that you got Isaiah Rider autograph…Excellent work!!! He is one of the few players I have been looking for certified autographs of!! Now just looking for my main one at the moment…Arvydas Sabonis!!!

  9. Just want to correct a little bit of misinformation I may have inadvertently spread yesterday. The box I showed with the QC gallery yesterday was a retail box. Retail boxes are 24 packs per box, 10 cards per pack. Hobby boxes are 20 packs per box, six cards per pack. My sincere apologies for any confusion.

  10. Very impressive. I am glad you guys stuck with the basics on this product. Last years was very impressive without rookies. Really looking forward to this years release.
