The Panini America Quality Control Gallery: 2012 Gridiron Football (A 33-Image Part 1)

We spent three glorious days here on The Knight's Lance previewing the splendid base-card photography featured in 2012 Gridiron Football. But you'll discover rather quickly once the product releases on Wednesday that 2012 Gridiron Football is about more than just a pretty base. Way more.

It’s also about the still-innovative-after-all-these-years Rookie Hidden Gems Autographs, the timeless Xs and Os parallels, the artistic inclusion of Gridiron Kings and Rookie Gridiron Kings, and inserts such as Air Command, Arms Race and Monday Night Heroes.

In short, it’s about many of the things you’ll see for the first time in the gallery that follows, highlighting some of the hits unearthed during last week’s quality-control process.

We’ll have tons more images to preview in Part 2 of our 2012 Gridiron Football QC Gallery tomorrow. Until then, take some quality time out of your afternoon to enjoy Part 1:

  1. Awedome stuff! I especially enjoy the triple prime rookie jersey cards. Keep up the great work Panini-looking forward to seeing what you guys pull on the Panini Unwrapped episode:)

  2. I really enjoy the updates from Panini Mahalo from Hawaii. I will break the redemption card record held by the collector in Taiwan 2500 + redemption’s is my goal! Aloha

  3. Sick David Wilson card! That guy can really return kickoffs. Really like the pull out jersey autos. If only I can get lucky and actually land one. This product has so much to offer and it begins with the outside of the box and the base cards.

  4. I like the rookie gridiron kings jersey cards. I dunno, I’ve always liked die cut cards and the shape of the crown for the jersey make even a one-color be a little special. The pull-out auto cards are different as well.

  5. Nice looking cards, with some new twists. Just wanted to point out that the die cut cards in Momentum. When we did some case creaks, the cut out cards tended to damage some of the other cards in their package wrappers. Just didnt want the same to happen, to these new game used die-cuts. They look awesome, love the oldies as usual, and the pull out autos fit really well this time around. The Brian Quick looks great.

  6. Guys, any idea why Revis insert swatch card has red fabric? If I recall correctly, Jets doesn’t have any red in its jersey.

  7. Kind of have a “Triple Play” Baseball feel to this reimagined classic. I don’t care fo have my pc populated by such… crap.

      1. I think I may have come off a wee bit harsh by calling it crap. I should have chosen another adjective… apologies for being so coarse.
What I will say, Tracy, is that the crown emblem, the redesignedGear logo…they have a juvenile feel to them. As an example, the Rookie Gridiron Kings autos appear “ungainly” or awkward, and they lack a design element… a certain elegance that Panini consistently manages to impart to their products and insert lines. It has a and that’s what I meant when I referenced the Triple Play product. Triple Play has a place, certainly, attracting younger consumers… and I’m sure this does as well within the Panini suite of products.
I am kind of embarassed by the initial post, Tracy. Bowery, I DO recall thinking that being privy to a design conference…. a session wherein Panini Creative hashes-out and arrives upon design elements and the “feel of the product” would be some fascinating insight. It may be that you have already posted such a thing and I missed it.
        Best-

        1. Appreciate the detailed explanation, Jamey. Certainly no need to apologize for your opinion. As we’ve discussed before, design is such a subject thing and can mean 10 different things to 10 different people. As always, it is candid feedback like this — from fans, customers and collectors — that will continue to help shape and improve our products.

To your point about a creative slash session, I’ve had discussions with creative director Brandon Lesley about going behind the scenes with creative before and we’re looking to get that done soon.

          Should be fascinating stuff.

      2. I hate IPhone autospell. Please insert “it has a childish feel” where the thought is unfinished, and “Bowery do recall” should read, “But I do recall thinking….”
Thanks for hearing me out. I think this product is just such a departure for Panini, especially if this is Gridiron Gear. Gear was one of those products that was punctuated with brilliant memorabilia and auto lines, this is just… very different.

  8. I love how the pull-out autos pull out vertically this year! I don’t know what Jamey is talking about? Gridirion looks nothing like Triple play! I think Gridirion looks great as always and that ain’t NO Crap! Keep up the great work Panin/Tracy!

  9. I tell you guys the photography on these cards is completely awesome. I can’t wait to pick some up. You guys have outdone yourselves this time.
