Next Wednesday, Panini America will triumphantly break the moratorium on a proud brand from baseball’s past with the release of 2013 Pinnacle Baseball, a refreshing revisiting of the popular product that’s been absent from the collecting scene for 16 years.

Although so much has changed since Pinnacle Baseball last released in 1997, Panini America officials have stayed true to those things that endeared the product to so many fans and collectors, beginning with a base-set design clearly inspired by that original 1992 Pinnacle release. But a familiar base design is just the start.

2013 Pinnacle Baseball — bolstered by the first Panini America Rookie Cards of Yasiel Puig — boasts enough nostalgic nods to Pinnacle’s past to satiate even the most discerning longtime brand devotees, including the distinctly Dufexian feel of Museum Collection, Artist Proof parallels and acetate aplenty. But there’s also something for new-generation collectors meeting Pinnacle for the first time — and for proof of that, check out the Clear Vision insert in the gallery that follows.

On average, each hobby box of 2013 Pinnacle Baseball will deliver four Clear Vision cards, three Museum Collection parallels, one Artist Proof parallel, five Nufex inserts (Slug Fest, Team Pinnacle, Aces), five acetate inserts (Pinnacle of Success, Swing for the Fences), two autographs and so much more.

We’ll have much more on 2013 Pinnacle Baseball right here on The Knight’s Lance in the coming days. But for now, enjoy the fruits of the Quality Control process that took place earlier this week.

  1. Very cool. A true rendition of those great Pinnacle sets of many years ago. Love the NUFEX/DUFEX cards. All you need for HOCKEY is those throwback style Pinnacle MASKS cards in NUFEX!!!!

When does this release??? Just no Pinnacles in a CAN, please!

    1. Looks like it has a little bit of everything. Acetate, dufex, shine. Glad to see Pinnacle Baseball make its return. Anyway this will be a football release as well 🙂 Hint …Hint…

I need to get my hands onto a Puig rookie. This looks like a great start.

    2. Hey Keith..I liked them in a can!!!!! I seem to be the only one…I still have my baseball set and a few of the following years.

      1. I actually bought a few when they came out and had one or two opened cans as my desk pencil holders for quite some time. Stumbled on to some years later at a flea market and bought a bunch at a deep discount. I remember doing pretty well on that insert-wise.

  2. Man, I am just imagining how even more great these cards would be with the licence from MLB to use the team names, logos etc. As a Jays fan, the Josh Johnson auto looks nice even though he hasn’t been his best, a dismal 2-8 this season. I also like the base card design and the acetate cards.

    1. I forgot about the MLB license! It looked so much like the topps cards that do have the license I didn’t realize it! It seems competitive even without the license! I can’t wait to get some retail of this stuff! Especially a Curtis Granderson Slug Fest card, I love this set!

  3. Love these Pinnacle cards, anything that takes me back the 1990’s is a good thing. could some explain why some of the cards say single, double, triple, and homerun?

  4. Yeah I agree with above I don’t know why you guys are putting any members of the “dirty Dozen” in your sets. I think you really need to look at that. And Braun was one that lied right to our faces more than once. I don’t want any of their cards especially not their auto. I’d like to hear the reason you guys left them in though if it was discussed. If it wasn’t discussed…well ill just hope it was.
