One glimpse — at the uniquely die-cut base and insert cards or the still-stupendous-after-all-these-years Silhouettes — is usually all it takes for even the most casual collectors to know they’re looking at Crown Royale, one of the most venerable and distinctive products in the trading card industry. With that in mind, know that Panini America officials have introduced a few new regal twists to next Wednesday’s release of 2014 Crown Royale Football to accompany the aforementioned brand staples.

Perhaps most noteworthy to longtime fans of Crown Royale is the completely renovated Rookie Signatures insert that takes its lead from the Silhouettes concept by backing player die-cuts with various types of foil. The effects, as you’ll see in the gallery below, are quite cool.

2014 Crown Royale Football also delivers a new die-cut pattern for the base set and the vibrant foil parallels that collectors have come to expect. Each hobby box will deliver one autograph or memorabilia card per pack. Earlier this week, the Panini America Football Product Development team spent time overseeing packout for the product at the production facility; the resulting gallery showcases just some of what they saw.

Enjoy the sneak peek and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for continued coverage of 2014 Crown Royale Football.

  1. In looking at these autos, too many guys are just signing a few letters of their name. It is actually ruining a card that would be otherwise stunning. Why do you bother putting autos like that in a product? I would never chase an auto that looks as bad/lazy.

    1. Totally agreed every year rookie autos get worse. I don’t totally blame them for their lazy chicken scratches. I would probably start squabble two letter together after a manufacture tells me I got to sign my auto 1000-2000 times in those little stickers. Both players and manufactures need to get on the same page on quality since it really hurts the look of high end cards to see those lazy initial autos.

  2. I like much of the redesign, & I do dig the new die-cuts but I confess to being frustrated with the frequency of 1 color swatches. If I drop $100+ on a 4 pack box, I expect to pull at least 1 multi-color patch… & I get what Calico is saying; Jace Amaro, just mark your cards with a big “X”… but that’s out of Panini’s control.
I, too, am eager to see the checklist.

  3. No die-cut crown (base card design) signatures this year? That would be really disappointing…they were a staple the past four years.

  4. The real sad thing about these players autos are that their best looking autos are on the low end products in the beginning of the season. By the time we get to the high end stuff at the end of the season their autos look drawings and you can’t even figure out what letters they were trying to write.
