Following a two-year run as a Target-exclusive retail release, Panini America’s popular Threads Basketball franchise is readying for a proud hobby comeback. In fact, one week from tomorrow, a Threads Basketball product will arrive in hobby shops across North America for the first time since the 2012-13 season. And as collectors would expect, 2016-17 Threads Basketball is bolstered by all of the nuances that have made the product a hardwood mainstay.

Each hobby box (six cards per pack, 20 packs per box) will deliver, on average, one autograph, one memorabilia card, two hobby-exclusive Leather Rookies and 18 inserts or parallels. Look for additional hobby-only inclusions such as Red, Holofoil, Gold and Platinum parallels, and short-printed inserts Century Stars, Automatic, Bringing Down the House, Swingmen and The Rooks.

True to its retail past, 2016-17 Threads Basketball will offer a bevy of retail-only chases, including Wood Rookie Cards and Micro-Etch Rookie Cards. Retail inserts and Century Proof Dazzle parallels are available across all retail configurations, but unique color variations (Blue, Green and Orange) are exclusive to each individual SKU.

We’ll have more on the retail side of 2016-17 Threads Basketball in the coming days right here on The Knight’s Lance. But for now, feast your eyes on this revealing Quality Control Gallery showcasing the hobby version.

  1. Really great looking set. Best Threads has ever looked in my opinion, and I’m glad to see trade deadline moves reflected on cards this season. Panini’s design team has been really at the top of it’s game lately!
