Tim Tebow Takes Control of Panini America #PaniniPylon Auction with Top Sale Price

Tim Tebow -- the most polarizing passer/punt protector on the planet -- may indeed be a man without an NFL team right now. But he's not a man without one of the most fervent, faithful and fanatic fan bases on the planet. As if we needed yet another example of that phenomenon, we certainly got it yesterday during the 11th day of the ongoing Panini America #PaniniPylon promotion.

Panini America Pylon Week 2 (73)

Tim Tebow — the most polarizing passer/punt protector on the planet — may indeed be a man without an NFL team right now. But he’s not a man without one of the most fervent, faithful and fanatic fan bases on the planet. Still. Whether or not we needed yet another example of that phenomenon, we certainly got it yesterday during the 11th day of the ongoing Panini America #PaniniPylon promotion.

Tebow’s pylon-orange 2012 Prizm Football 1/1 headlined Monday’s list of 10 auctions — and thanks to a frenzied fit of bidding in the auction’s final seconds yesterday, one day after Tebow was unceremoniously released by the New York Jets, his card sold for an auction-high $427.01. For the record, that’s more than the amounts paid for Aaron Rodgers, Adrian Peterson, Cam Newton or Peyton Manning.

While Tebow’s auction-topping performance may not necessarily come as a huge surprise to hardcore collectors, it does rank as the most interesting development thus far in the #PaniniPylon promotion. It also gives us an opportunity to profile the 10 top-selling veterans and 10 top-selling rookies to date.

Stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for continued updates on the promotion, and be sure to check out the Panini Authentic auction platform for the Day 12 auctions ending soon.

In addition, stay tuned for several of the biggest names in the set that have yet to hit the auction block, including Tom Brady, Ray Rice, Troy Polamalu, Larry Fitzgerald and top rookies Andrew Luck, RG III, Russell Wilson and Doug Martin.

  2. Holy [crap] Tebow went for that much now I know people r crazy he [stinks] something fierce can’t play QB and still people want his card. Well I have a red panini prizm of him if anyone wants it for $500.00 LMK LOl!!!

  3. If someone wants it, someone wants it. Good for them. That’s what’s great about this hobby. Hey Tracy, any Panini Father’s Day news yet?????

  4. I am not a hater, but that is an awful lot of money to pay for a card of someone who has pretty much been out of the league since he went to New York. It does not help being an unsigned free agent with limited to no interest from any teams (at least not publicly announced). But, as Keith S. said above “If someone wants it, someone wants it”, as long as the collector who bought it is happy that is all that matters.
