Back in 2002, Donruss Elite Football made collecting history by incorporating a 1920s-era game-worn leather helmet from pigskin pioneer Red Grange into a simply legendary Throwback Threads memorabilia card. Almost 10 years later, that helmet is still paying dividends for Panini America.

In fact, the Galloping Ghost’s historic headwear provided Creative Director Brandon Lesley with the brilliant inspiration behind the base-card design of 2011 Timeless Treasures Football, making the Routing Table rounds this week in advance of its September release date.
It’s not always the devil that’s in the details. Sometimes, it’s pure, unadulterated greatness. See what we mean with this sneak preview gallery.
Great looking Cards Please let there be a David Gettis in this
love it. Is that a scan of the actual helmet on each card? That’s something I’d do.
It is indeed.
Closest thing to 2006 NT that I have seen yet (best FB set ever made IMO). How about a ‘rookie-free’ product sometime Tracy?
Hmmm . . .
I’d second this motion.
The point being…I feel that a lot of collectors might prefer chasing ‘basic’ RC’s from lower-end products. One can still get a nice SP RC AU without the frills from Score, Classics, Contenders, etc. Reserve the veteran/legend/HOF stuff for the high end products. IMO it sucks to pay for a box of P+P/Limited/NT and have the biggest hit be a rookie – especially if the team I collect doesn’t have a Tier 1 RC for that season.
Great looking base design, love the fresh concept.
Great base design. You guys are great at doing base card designs so collectors actually want to put a set together. Great job!!
