The fact that these sweltering July days seem to be ticking past at a faster-than-normal pace right about now might just have something to do with our excitement and anticipation for the upcoming 2015 National Sports Collectors Convention that kicks off just two weeks from today. All of us at Panini America have been steadfastly preparing for one of the most important events of the collecting year — and that process is sure to intensify in the coming days.

Over the course of the last few weeks here on The Knight’s Lance, we’ve been leaking information surrounding Panini America’s massive presence at the show — including preliminary details on our marquee National VIP Party, the special six-card set available to registered show VIPs, and the Panini America wrapper-redemption set’s base and subset cards. Today, we’re bringing you another must-see sneak peek.

This time, we’re focusing on the spectacular and rare Original Player Sketch Cards that have become an annual staple of Panini America promotional sets and some unique autograph cards that have yet to hit the public. In the gallery that follows, we showcase just some of each — including original works of art from the likes of Marcus Mariota, Melvin Gordon, Jaelen Strong, Shabazz Napier and more, and Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2014 autographs from the likes of Michael Strahan, Ray Guy, Andre Reed and more.

These special inclusions will be randomly inserted into Panini America’s 2015 National Sports Collectors Convention wrapper-redemption packs. Here’s hoping these images tide you over until next week, when we begin unveiling the National set’s normal star-studded cast of memorabilia and autographs cards.

Enjoy . . .

  1. Maybe it’s me but having sketch cards like that from the player is kind of weird. And if they go for big money it’s even weirder. I would much rather have an artist sketch an action shot or something of the player than the player drawing or writing something like Amiri Cooper wrote. But why put any money into any product.

Topps and Panini are real capitalism stars at there best. First corner the market, next increase prices, next cut all costs and investment into quality and development, and finally refuse to listen to customer complaints and collect FAT PROFITS. There the EA of the sports card hobby world.

Imagine if you get a sketch card in the style of Leroy Neiman, signed by the artist and player. Now that is a real 1/1 card not just some card that has the serial number 1/1.

  2. Some nice inclusions in the upcoming promo set, great way to remind people it’s not always about those thick packs. I would’ve liked to see those last few signatures stand out more though. Thanks Tracy!

  3. Some of those sketch cards are just…. PC cornerstones; Love Langford’s “the money turned my noodles into pasta!”

For me, though, the winner(s) are those who pull Derrick Brooks or Aeneas Williams SuperBowl ink. Tremendous job getting their ‘graphs!

  4. Looking forward to the National again . VIP PARTY WILL BE CRAZY AGAIN !!!! I hope there is some numbered rookies of Mariota and Winston . Looks like someone left them out of the /499 . See you at the Show
