Boasting a bold, in-their-face design that hearkens back to the halcyon days of beloved-but-bygone Studio releases, Panini America’s upcoming 2012 Signature Series Baseball aims to provide collectors with an intimate look at the biggest stars of the Major League Baseball Players Association.

As you can see in the preview gallery that follows, the new Signature Series will signal a refreshing departure from the standard action-photography release while presenting baseball’s biggest stars in a way you’ve rarely seen them before.

Earlier this week, Panini America officials began processing many of the cards slated to receive on-card autographs for the set, and many of those — including a few Proof parallel versions — are featured below in their before-autograph state. In addition, we’ve also provided a few glimpses of some base cards from the set.

Enjoy this candid, personality-driven sneak peek and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional updates as they become available.

  1. Very sweet. Glad you guys are bringing back some of the classic Donruss products…but with a Panini twist and improvement. Way to go guys!

  2. When will MLB realize that it is in their best interest to give Panini a MLB license, if not the exclusive that the other compan has?!!

  3. The set is fantastic, the portrait shots are really different and compelling. Towards that end, is it just me or does Logan Morrison look like a man about to snap?

  4. I loved Studio in the 1990s so if we can’t have that brand back this is next best thing. I have a question about the street date for Panini’s baseball products? Will we see Signature Series or Cooperstown hit stores first? Both products look really nice so I want to know which one I will be spending my money on first!
