What If NBA Superstar Kevin Durant Played Football . . . for the Washington Redskins?

In case you missed it, NBA superstar Kevin Durant dressed up as a football player for Halloween on Monday night. Then the noted Washington Redskins fan went out and displayed to a frenzied throng of onlookers in Stillwater, Okla., that he could more than play the part.

According to The Daily Oklahoman, Durant’s surprise appearance for the Oklahoma State Sigma Nu fraternity flag football team did not disappoint. Durant, playing quarterback and defensive back, scored four touchdowns and picked off three passes.

Durant’s dominating performance on the gridiron immediately got us here at Panini America dreaming about the endless football card possibilities of such a gargantuan vocational relocation. So seeing as how Durant is one of our exclusive athletes (and since the Redskins could obviously use the offensive help), we dispatched an all-star team of creative experts to concoct two fantasy football cards.

With the help of Panini America’s own Robert Greinke, Alex RamirezToni Real Y Vasquez and freelance designer Bill Bridgeforth, we present — for nothing more than to ponder the timeless question “What if?” — our idea of what Durant’s first two NFL Rookie Cards might look like, using our new 2011 Crown Royale Football and upcoming 2011 Certified Football designs.

And just to take our little project one more logical step, we asked Beckett Media Senior Market Analyst Rob Springs to speculate on the secondary-market value such Durant cards might have. His estimate: Between $150 and $200.

Not bad to start, but mere chump change if Durant made a habit of four-touchdown, three-pick performances. Now, if we could just make it a reality.

  1. Are we going to see some more Certified football pics or box break video this week? I am right that its out this week?

These cards are sick by the way. And I think WR is the best position for Durant! Just like Burress. Just lob it up.

      1. Awesome!!! Counting down!! No chance to find that Durant in in……yet. Without NBA you never know where these players will go or do.

  2. Not to be a downer. But I played at OSU in intramural flag football. Throwing 4 TD passes and snagging three picks is not that impressive. We had a guy who averaged 6 TD passes per game… and there are a lot of picks in that league.

    1. Not that those aren’t good stats; they’re just not dominant for that league… Big props to him for coming out and having fun with those kids though! Very cool!

  3. The other question is do u want Durant or Lebron if both decided to jump into the NFL?

    1. I’d take LeBron, I’m not sure how durable KD would be to the NFL contact. He doesn’t bench press much (going back to rookie combine), so if he played WR, he could get jammed a lot up there. As for QB, the taller they are, the harder they fall!
