Playoff Contenders Football — like the EA Sports Madden franchise, Christmas or Eminem‘s next album — is one of those wildly anticipated “events” whose every arrival generates considerable buzz and bona fide cause for celebration.

That should make next Wednesday, the official release date for 2010 Playoff Contenders Football, at least a red-letter day and absolutely a national collecting holiday. As I type this, Ben Ecklar and Carlos TorrezPanini America‘s vaunted football team, are two counties away at our printing facility overseeing the packout process.

But so much of the product’s heaviest lifting has taken place over the last two months as Panini America acquisitions guru Joe White has doggedly tracked the 35 young stars from the 2010 NFL PLAYERS Rookie Premiere whose cornerstone Rookie Ticket Autographed RCs will be signed on-card. Consider what follows, then, the fruits of Joe’s labor.

Enjoy this 33-card piece of hobby heaven and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance all week long for continued exclusive coverage of 2010 Playoff Contenders Football.

  1. I like how Emmanual Sanders signed his card, it actually pulls the card together more.

I like the distressed look of the tickets.

  2. Great looking cards. I love how the autos are on card but I feel like some of them get lost in the large Rookie at the bottom of the card.

  3. Ohhhhh so pretty! I love the on card auto’s! Especially love the way some players utilized not signing a little sticky and put some ink on the card. This is going to be fun to open! This set just really is nice from what I’ve seen, I can’t wait to hold a few!

  4. Is there a Checklist? Want to see if theres a David Gettis. Don’t know why Armanti Edwards still gets more cards then Gettis. Edwards didn’t start a single game

  5. I’m assuming in the pictures that are presented here that there is no “bubbling effect” to the on card signatures. That was a sore spot last year and that kind of helped turn me away from buying any last year.

  6. That Clausen card looks really sharp. I may be the only person in the Carolinas still buying his cards so perhaps I’ll have a chance to land this great card!

  7. I don’t understand this one bit. The cards looked absolutely jaw-dropping when they were on plain white cardstock mock-ups. Why the Foil Board? Just because every other contenders has foil board?

Has Panini ever asked people, “Hey, do you guys like Foil Board or do you feel it makes the cards look cheap?” It honestly seems like majority of collectors hate it in most products yet Panini continues to produce it because it’s their *thing*
