Panini America Honoring Charles Barkley at 2018 National with Special Redemption

July 31, 2018

Charles Barkley National Redemption Cards2

Today’s big news that Panini America has entered into a history-making exclusive agreement with NBA legend and Basketball Hall of Famer Charles Barkley is sure to continue creating buzz throughout the collectibles industry for weeks, months and even years to come. Barkley’s autographed presence will almost immediately be felt with tomorrow’s release of 2017-18 Noir Basketball. But the timing of the partnership also is fortuitous given that the 2018 National Sports Collectors Convention begins tomorrow in Cleveland.

To honor the new partnership at the hobby’s marquee event, Panini America officials have developed a unique Barkley wrapper-redemption program for the National featuring an exclusive 10-card set chronicling Barkley’s career from his college days at Auburn to his days with the 76ers, Suns, Rockets and Team USA. For each box of 2017-18 Mosaic Prizm Basketball purchased from the Panini Authentic tower inside the Panini America booth, collectors will receive one two-card Charles Barkley Redemption Pack that includes one base Silver Barkley card numbered to 399 and one parallel or autograph Barkley card numbered to 199 or less.

Two cards each from Barkley’s aforementioned career stops comprise the 10- card base set that features Red (numbered to 199), Blue (numbered to 99), Orange (numbered to 50), Purple (numbered to 25), Gold (numbered to 10) and Black 1/1 parallels. In addition, there are rare Green autograph versions numbered to just three.

We offer a small sneak peek at some of the cards below. Enjoy the imagery and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional coverage of Barkley and the 2018 National. Check out the links below for all of our preview coverage revolving around the 2018 National Sports Collectors Convention:

Serious question here…why is the default number of cards in a set 10? Why couldn’t it be nine, so that a complete set fits into one sheet?

That’s a great question. It primarily has to do with the way the cards are printed on a “100-up” form.
