Etched to Impress: Panini America Explores Rookie Inserts in 2013 Prestige Football

The magnificence of microetching always has been a print technology that's better experienced than explained. To really appreciate it, you've got to get your hands and eyes on it -- and to do that, you've usually had to wait for Panini America to release Totally Certified, a brand widely recognized in both basketball and football as the matriarch of microetching.

The magnificence of microetching always has been a print technology that’s better experienced than explained. To really appreciate it, you’ve got to get your hands and eyes on it — and to do that, you’ve usually had to wait for Panini America to release Totally Certified, a brand widely recognized in both basketball and football as the matriarch of microetching.

But next Wednesday, the family expands when 2013 Prestige Football releases with a few microetched marvels of its own in the rookie-focused NFL Draft Picks (20 cards) and Prestigious Picks (40 cards) inserts. Their inclusion — as you’ll see in the gallery below — no doubt adds a little bit more prestige to Prestige.

We’ve managed to track down 18 of the 20 cards on the NFL Draft Picks checklist, and all 40 of the Prestigious Picks cards, for a gallery that offers a thorough examination of the microetching motif and delivers more must-see shots of the top 2013 NFL rookies in their NFL uniforms.

Enjoy, and stay tuned to The Knight’s Lance for additional coverage of 2013 Prestige Football in the coming days.

  1. amazing set of desings by panini!
the best card company out there!
cant wait for you to have this in the nba draft!
awesome… cant wait for national treasures..
    will top everything!

      1. Wait tracy when will the winners be announced for the scavenger hunt? Or did you already alert the people that won?

        thanks!

  2. I am NOT surprised but still disappointed to not see any Colts in this set. First blog post from the new phone btw. Thanks Tracy!

  3. Very slick, very Boss looking issued. Might even call them “EMboss” issues!
Bringing this “Totally Certified” element to a product that has been subjected to a great deal of attentive tweaking is very positive. Prestige is a product with a very identifiable feel to it. However, and this is just my opinion, that when you start weaving brand-specific parallels and technologies together…you lose the very elements that make those releases both identifiable and special.
Nevertheless, a little dabbling never hutt anyone and I love the micro-etching!
    Nice with the close-ups Hackler!

  4. Those look great! Exactly that much shiny effects that I like! Well probably one of my favourite football inserts in a while!

And btw Tracy, to save some clicks for myself, when will you present the winners of the ‘Find it friday’-scavenger hunt? 🙂

  5. This year Prestige really looks nice. I can’t wait to see what everything else looks like this year of the 1st product is this nice.

  6. so very impressed with these years Prestige. This has always been THE intro to the new rookie class and this years design is outstanding. If this set and the new upgrades are in any way a precursor of whats to come for Elite then we are all in for a treat 🙂 I cant wait to get my hands on these. Wednesday can come quick enough. I also want to thank team Panin for another great Fathers Day promotion. I ordered one Prime Sigs box from icollectpanini a week ago, Great looking cards in my two packs! Wish i could take advantage of the four pack special ending tonight (cant get enough), but kudos on another great year! Thanks again for all you do for all of us who collect your great product.
