Panini America Highlights Two Super-Rare Legends in 2012 Cooperstown Baseball
When it comes to relative scarcity in the modern sports card arena, certain cards rank as tough pulls, others are tougher still and a precious few are so needle-in-a-haystack rare that they seem to be nothing more than rumors.
Two special cards in Panini America’s recently released 2012 Cooperstown Baseball fall into that last category. These previously unannounced inclusions honoring Hall of Fame legends Ty Cobb and Lou Gehrig were randomly inserted across the Cooperstown production run at a rate of one every 9,600 packs. For those counting at home, that’s roughly once every 400 boxes or so.
These special cards don’t include cut autographs or pieces of game-worn memorabilia — just iconic Hall of Fame photography that pays endearing tribute to “The Georgia Peach” and the “Iron Horse,” respectively.
It’s just something we wanted to bring to collectors’ attention that could add an element of intrigue (or shock) to your next box of 2012 Cooperstown Baseball. Oh, and since there’s a chance you’ve yet to even see one of these cards, we’ve provided stunning previews of them in the mini gallery that follows.
