One of football’s favorite all-time trading card brands will join forces with one of the most prolific rookie classes in recent NFL history to create a star-studded and stacked 2014 Contenders Football. The perennial, ink-packed powerhouse is slated to release in early January with a hobby version that will deliver five autographs per box (with at least two on-card).

Each hobby box also will yield an average insert haul that includes two Rookie of the Year Contenders, two Draft Class, two Round Numbers, one MVP Contenders, one Legendary Contenders, two Touchdown Tandems and two additional inserts or parallels.

But Contenders Football always has been about one thing: The Autographed Rookie Tickets. For 2014, that Rookie Ticket roster includes 40 on-card RPS signers and a tiered parallel structure featuring versions numbered to 199 (Playoff Tickets), 99 (Championship Tickets), 22 (Cracked Ice Tickets) and only one (Super Bowl Tickets and Printing Plates).

Other highlights from one of the industry’s favorite sets . . .

  • Dual autographs in the Alma Mater and Round Numbers inserts with versions numbered to 25 or less.
  • The popular Rookie Ink insert returns featuring on-card autographs of the 40 top rookies who appeared at the 2014 NFLPA Rookie Premiere on base, Gold (numbered to 99 or less) and Holo Gold (numbered to only one) versions.
  • Rookie of the Year Contenders on-card autographs.
  • The brand-favorite MVP Contenders Autographs (numbered to 25 or less) and Legendary Contenders Autographs (numbered to 10 or less).

We’ll have plenty more on 2014 Contenders Football in the coming days right here on The Knight’s Lance, including an update on the retail version of the product. For now, though, check out this extended sneak peek at the product that includes some of the early autograph returns from 2014 NFL Draft headliners Kelvin Benjamin and Teddy Bridgewater.

  1. Contenders is a perennial hit for the hobby and yields arguably the best and longest-lasting rookie autographs since their inception in the product. Many player’s most iconic cards period have come from this product and from the gallery above it looks like this year will be no different. Thanks Tracy!

  2. The Contenders product is THE ‘graph studded standard that sets the bar by which other auto-heavy, rookie contingent products are measured.

The cracked ice and other, varied printing technologies only serve to augment an already tremendous product.
The ’14-’15 products looks… fabulous, and the rookie class (including the strongest Wide Receiving class in history) makes a VERY strong case for collectors to break one…& stash one.
GOOD LUCK! Let fellow TKL bloggers know how you do 8))

  3. What is the Super Bowl ticket then… The 1/1? I wish you could see the back of the card on most of these to see the numbering. It really counts with a product like this!! Stuff look great, I’ve been away from the hobby pretty much all year but Ive been doing a little here and there the last month. I saw the Gold Standard Basketball preview too, stuff looks nice Tracy. Keep up the great work.. Happy Holidays

  4. Will this be loaded with Point cards? If so, i will pass like I have with the rest of the products after Rookies and Stars!

  5. Awesome! Looking at the Teddy, is there 2 variations of the rookie tickets? Would love a heads up of how to tell which ones are the base cards… Can’t wait to get my hands on some!

  6. Just judging from the Bridgewater pictures shown above, looks like he’ll have around 8 billion different card variations in this product.

  7. What happened to trading cards using actual photography instead of all the effects. The shiny thing is overdone. Every set looks more and more alike.
