The Baltimore Ravens’ exhilarating march to Super Bowl XLVII began in earnest three weeks ago with a playoff-opening 24-9 home victory over Panini Authentic exclusive Andrew Luck and the Indianapolis Colts. In that game, played January 6, Ravens quarterback Joe Flacco passed for 282 yards and two touchdowns while Torrey Smith contributed 31 yards on two catches.

On Wednesday, the same jerseys those two stars wore that day arrived safely, soundly and rather pungently at Panini America HQ; and in the case of Flacco’s, there was a little history mixed in with the sweat.

In beating the Colts, Flacco became the first player in the Super Bowl era to win at least one playoff game in each of his first five seasons. If he can win one more next Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers, Flacco will etch his name into a considerably more prominent place in NFL annals. To do that, Flacco he’ll likely need continued assistance from Smith, a big-play personified who’s contributed nine catches for 198 yards and two touchdowns during the 2012 postseason.

But for this particular post, let’s focus not on Super Bowl XLVII (there’s still plenty of time for that over the next 10 days), but on two splendid pieces of history that were pivotal in setting the tone for the Ravens’ thrilling-so-far playoff run. Where will these jerseys end up next? Good question. We’ll have plenty more on that right here on The Knight’s Lance down the road.

But for now, let’s simply appreciate the purple majesty of these beauties . . .

    1. I agree 100%. If these beauties end up in trading cards, PLEASE make sure that the info above is noted on the card. That was something i loved about the 2011 timeless treasures relic cards. Actual jersey worn in a game on this date. Much better then the rookie premire cards from players putting on a bunch all at once for a minute.

  1. Trading cards and personal collections mean different things to different people. For me, my cards get me closer to the sports I am so passionate about. Accordingly, mem’ cards… particularly those bearing obvious signs of use & wear, transport me to the middle of the game. Further, the historic significance of such issues will be made manifest in secondary market sales.
I would love a vid’ of THack escorting we Panini-ophiles through all of the Jerseys, cleats, towels, and other assorted GU objects Panini has gathered for use in upcoming products.
Great stuff Hackler, Panini continues to raise the bar!

  2. Great pieces of history for Panini to acquire, I hope they are destined for a similar treatment as the Game Day Souvenir series in Timeless Treasures. Thanks Tracy!

  3. Those are awesome pieces Tracy. If you can’t find a use for them, I will help you out and take the jerseys to get them out of your way.

  4. Cool. Love the pungently reference. I remember reading somewhere about the weight difference between a team’s uniforms before and after the game. I don’t remember the exact number, but it was a bigger number of pounds than I thought it would be.

  5. How gnarly would it be to give away the entire jersey instead of cutting it up into small pieces. As in, redemption’s from a product. Those things are so cool, it’s almost criminal to cut them up. Having the whole jersey would be awesome. I know that’s not going to happen but it would be great if it did.

  6. I’m a huge Ravens fan, and am glad to see these historic jerseys becoming a part of our hobby. Don’t wash them! So many of the Ravens have moving stories this season that, I hope get recognized this week going into the Super Bowl. Go Ravens!

  7. Thanks Tracy – I see awesome jumbo patches and patch autos in a superbowl set 2013. That is the only way I could ever own this kind of item.
