The Cam Newton Era officially kicks off later today when the Carolina Panthers’ Heisman Trophy-winning former National Champion makes his first NFL start on the road against the Arizona Cardinals. But all of us here at Panini America have been on the Newton bandwagon since April.

That’s when we produced his first officially licensed NFL trading cards inside 2011 Prestige Football — and when we knew we had to have him as a special part of the Panini America family.

In late May at the 2011 NFL PLAYERS Rookie Premiere, just days after inking him to an autograph agreement, we sat down for an exclusive interview with the electrifying quarterback selected No. 1 overall in the 2011 NFL Draft. During the engaging conversation Newton discussed, among other things, what he learned from NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal and what he thinks of this first Rookie Cards.

BONUS BEHIND-THE-SCENES FOOTAGE: The day before our interview with Newton, we followed him to the NFL Network studios as he made the rounds and broke the news of his signing with Panini America. Here’s that video . . .

  1. I don’t mean to be funny, but cam looks like a monster sitting right next to you. Look at those arms. He looks like he could have been a better LB than a QB.

  2. Great interview. Must be very sweet to meet these athletes. What a great job! NOt to mention….that card is so sweet and very sick!!

  3. I envy you Tracy what a dream job getting to meet the stars up close and personal and getting to ask them questions….I also appreciate that you and Panini America bring us closer to the game.
I also really liked that little photo session that was real cool getting to see how the pics are taken for their cards……..

  4. Great interview. Cam was much more relaxed with you asking him questions than he was in the total access interview in the second video. In fact all these interviews you did really do a lot to show the rookies personalities.
